State dessert being proposed... Should it be Kringle?

Wisconsin lawmakers are considering making kringle the official state pastry.
Democratic State Rep. Cory Mason of Racine proposed honoring the kringle – a large round flat pastry with a hole in the middle made predominantly in Racine County – in the state budget proposal that passed last week.
But a majority vote in either house can take out any budget provision, and the governor could use his partial veto power if it reaches his desk. Both houses are controlled by Republicans.
All Gov. Scott Walker’s spokesman Tom Evenson would say last week was that Walker would review the budget when it reaches his desk.

With all those dairy cows, WI ought to have a dairy dessert....something with sweet cheese, or ice cream...or both!

in that it's Danish, for one thing. Kringle is Danish for "ring." And of course Racine has a rather heavy Danish population. These might be some hints about the connection.

Rep. Mason argued passionately for the BadgerCare expansion with federal funds last week in the Joint Finance Committee, even getting a hearty round of applause that the chair had to put down. He deserves to win at least this much for his efforts.
