Walkom: How Bob Rae has kept the near-dead Liberal party alive

The robocall came, as such things usually do, just before supper.

“Hi, I’m Bob Rae,” the recorded telephone message announced cheerily. “You may have heard the news.”

The news was twofold: first, that New Democrat backbencher Lise St.-Denis had just announced her decision to defect to the Liberals.

And second that Bob Rae, former NDP premier of Ontario and current interim federal Liberal leader, is alive, kicking and ready to take on Stephen Harper.
