"After five years of minority governments, Stephen Harper finally has the freedom to act.
Hes no longer looking at the limited horizon of the next budget or the next election. Hes planning on transforming Canada for a generation or more. This is Stephen Harpers blueprint for reform.
Although short on details, Mr. Harpers speech to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday made clear the sweep of his ambition. He will change how Canadians finance their retirement. He will overhaul the immigration system. He will make oil and gas exports to Asia a national priority and aggressively pursue free trade in India and Europe.
Several times in his speech, Mr. Harper portrayed his agenda as a fix for a generation a fix he claimed is necessary to confront the challenges of an aging population. Canadas demographics, he warned, pose a threat to the social programs and services that Canadians cherish. Preserving those social programs will likely mean cuts elsewhere."........

(5,604 posts)The ego of this asshat kills me. He uses the world stage to push his conservative economic moralizing, every chance he gets. His quest for international relevance is embarrassing. Meanwhile at home, his credibility should be shit with a new scandal or cover-up occurring almost everyday. Oddly, his complete legislative impunity creates fear and complicity from the CBC, and apathy and resignation from voters. His vision of the future is un-Canadian in every traditional sense.
To be drunk with power when he is out of the country.
It used to be that when he was away there was a breakdown in the system. Now he is away and the whole story has changed.
Seems to me that a black blob in Ottawa is all that has some control on the fellow.
