Some 100 checkpoints set up Thursday night as 2 key organizers arrested, charged

Police have begun to make arrests in Ottawa's downtown core as the operation to end the three-week occupation ramps up Friday morning, while two key convoy organizers are set to appear in court.

At 8:10 a.m. ET, Ottawa police announced a large police presence on Nicholas Street in the city's core. According to police, some protesters were surrendering and being arrested.

About 15 police vans were seen parked at the intersection of Rideau and Nicholas streets around 8:30 a.m. delivering dozens of officers to the downtown streets. At the same time, a number of protesters seemed to be settling in for the day with small tents and fires to stay warm.

The Children's Aid Society of Ottawa says it is working with police to keep children in the downtown core safe and, as of 9:15 a.m., confirmed no children had been transferred to its care.

I think trying to extract them first would maximize tension and potential violence in the areas surrounding the families. That would pose the greatest risk to the well being of the children.

The parents were warned previously to remove the children and they chose, instead, to continue to use their children as human shields. Child services is monitoring this very closely and if the parents are arrested, their children will be taken under their care.

The children will be traumatized, no doubt, if that happens but that lies at the feet of the parents and not the authorities, imo.

9. I honestly cannot fathom any responsible parent...

using their children as shields while they break the law. I wonder the parent/s, once arrested, will be charged with child endangerment along with the other charges. They certainly should be, imo.
