HMRC says it is taking 'firm action' on tax avoidance

HM Revenue and Customs has said it is taking "firm action to protect the Exchequer from unacceptable tax loss".

The promise came after reports that comedian Jimmy Carr and members of the band Take That were among wealthy individuals using legal but aggressive tax avoidance schemes.

One scheme, K2, is said to be shielding £168 million a year from the taxman.

More than 1,000 people, including Carr, are thought to be using the Jersey-based K2 scheme.

BTW a interest free loan is at the very least a taxable benefit in kind even when Kosher.

with Channel Islands a/cs was running back in the '70s. Seemingly takes a long time to close loopholes regardless of who's in power.

Jimmy Carr is vastly over-rated as a comedian.

I do however wonder why all the focus is on Jimmy Carr rather then the likes of Gary Barlow or Sir Phillip Green.

Comedian Jimmy Carr says he has "made a terrible error of judgement" over using a tax avoidance scheme.

In a statement on his Twitter account, Mr Carr said he was no longer involved in the K2 tax shelter.

Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday called Mr Carr's use of the scheme "morally wrong".
