Stephen Lawrence killers found guilty 18 years after racist murder

Gary Dobson and David Norris have been found guilty of the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence, the first convictions in the case since the black teenager was stabbed to death 18 years ago.

The pair were convicted today and now face life sentences.

It comes after a five-week trial during which forensic evidence linking the two to the murder was shown to the jury.

A spot of Stephen’s blood was found on the collar of Dobson’s jacket, while hairs belonging to Stephen were found on Norris’s trousers.

Stephen Lawrence murder: Dobson and Norris found guilty.

Two men have been convicted of the racist murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence - 18 years after the attack.

Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, were found guilty by a jury at the Old Bailey after a trial focused on forensic evidence seized in 1993.

The original failed investigation led to the Metropolitan Police being branded as institutionally racist.

Stephen Lawrence was 18 when he was stabbed to death near a bus stop in Eltham, south London, in April 1993. Police identified five men who were later named in a damning public inquiry as the "prime suspects".

was all the stuff which mentioned after the verdict had been given by the jury which had previously been withheld from them.

Life is mandatory but what remains to be seen is the minimum number of years imposed which apparently have to be kept in context with 1993 guidelines.

Hurray for the 800 year old double jeopardy law being revised and the new crime of joint criminal enterprise.

May Stephen's family and friends find some form of closure after what must have been a dreadful 18 years for them.

Two men convicted of the murder of Stephen Lawrence have been detained for a minimum of 15 years and two months and 14 years and three months.

An Old Bailey jury found Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, guilty of the 1993 killing in south east London.

The life terms on the pair were passed as if they were juveniles as both were under 18 when the black teenager died.

The judge, Mr Justice Treacy, said the crime was committed for no other reason than racial hatred.
