UKIP’s Scottish branch has said its new mission in the wake of Brexit will be to abolish Holyrood - by first getting elected to it.
The party said it wanted to make a “proper Unionist case” for reverting to the pre-devolution status of 72 MPs in Scotland and the country “governed exclusively” from London.

It said: “There is no current political party in Scotland making a proper Unionist case which, in our view, means a return to the pre-1999 position with Scotland... governed exclusively by The House of Commons.

“UKIP intends to fill this political gap by fielding candidates in each of the eight Regional Lists at the May 2021 Holyrood election in the hope of gaining in each case the 6% or so proportion of the vote which would lead to the election of an MSP.

“For too long the Nationalists and phoney Unionists have dominated the Scottish political scene.”

1. I think they will accomplish the opposite.

Scotland can leave the UK and join the EU. Stay part of the Commonwealth. Take the North Sea oil.

I would hazard a guess that even the most unionist of unionist, if they are anything like NI, want the union but want devolved powers over local governance.
Why don't they just go the way of the BNP already...

3. The vast majority of their supporters have long since jumped ship

Either to the Tories or the Brexit pity party. However, they have been hugely influential on right wing thinking, and I can see this strand of Unionism (which appears to have been inspired mostly by Butcher Cumberland after the battle of Culloden) gaining a lot of support among right wingers.

5. That was certainly the case in the last election. It was a wipe-out for UKIP in Scotland (again).

There's no electoral scope for UKIP in Scotland. The hardline, mostly rightwing, Unionists have headbanging wings in the more mainstream parties that'll happily pander to them.

Let them burble. Scottish self-determination has more serious adversaries in Johnson, Alister Jack et al., who won't be so easily dismissed.

If they all moved into one constituency, they'd be able to retain their deposit. Not in 2, though.

UKIP aren't even relevant in England any more, let alone Scotland. We'll have to see what the Brexit party people do; I expect most will return to the Tories now. According to Wikipedia, Brexit have 4 out of 60 AMs in the Welsh Assembly, and 35 councillors scattered around England (and, I'd guess, Wales). Oooh, Neil Hamilton is still in the Welsh Assembly for UKIP. I suspect Brexit and the Tories refused to take him ...
