If the "big money" won out in WI,

what does that mean for the rest of us in the general election this fall? Is our democracy truly over?

For the first time, I'm really, really scared about the future of this country. I graduate a year from now and depending on this fall's election, I may be looking at more "global options" ...... although it seems the practices of disaster capitalism and tyranny are becoming more widespread, not less.

Feeling might blue.

1. Rumor has it that Koch's are going to spend up to a billion dollars to defeat Obama. That

does not sound like very good news to me.

2. corporations are buying democracy out from under us

It's true, it seems that our neo-lib and neo-con approaches and our lack of campaign finance reform is putting us on the highway to hell/road to nowhere/somewhere else we don't want to be.

the only solution i can see happening is a major change in the campaign finance system. That means SCOTUS overruling Citizens United and realizing that unlimited money = implicit corruption, or an amendment to the constitution changing campaign finance. None of those are going to come from Congress, which wants to keep the big money paying their way into office. The Koch Bros and other wealthy financiers are going to dig in their heels too, and try their best to defeat any popular reform effort.

Ultimately, it seems the only solution is going to be a popular reform movement assisted by some deus ex machina (colbert springs to mind), or SCOTUS fixing the problem they created. Ideally, we'd see both, and we'd see them soon.

3. History is repeating itself.

The world, especially here in the US, is looking more and more like it did prior to The New Deal--when tycoon/tyrants like Henry Ford even had workers shot and beaten for striking. What changed was through the depression everything collapsed and was rebuilt by FDR. We're definitely going back to that...the only difference is we don't have the conditions we had back then to help pull us out of the ditch.

I believe in our lifetimes, the USA will look more like Mexico--workers work for very low wages, no regulations, rights, etc, the rich will thrive while crime runs rampant.
