they need him if they want to keep a majority

2. Manchin-WV serves on the Appropriations,Energy,Intelligence,and Veterans Affairs.

Manchin is the 14th ranking Democrat on Appropriations, 5th ranking Democrat on Energy, 6th ranking Democrat on the Intelligence commitee, last ranking Democrat on Veterans Affairs. It is highly unlikely he will be a committee chair.
