2. SC has an especially stupid incumbent

Henry McMaster, a former Reagan-era US Attorney, had run 4 times for statewide office, and finally won the 2014 Lt Gov race because no one else wanted the $35,000 mostly ceremonial job. Then, he became the first statewide elected official to endorse Trump, and moved into the Gov office when Trump put Nikki Haley at the UN.
We have a good Dem candidate, served two tours in Iraq, and has an outside shot but probably needs a few missteps from McMaster to pull off the upset.

McMaster ran against our long-serving Dem Senator Fritz Hollings when he ran for His last term. Desperate for some issue to get some attention, he threw out an innuendo by challenging that they both take a drug test and agree to make the results public. Without missing a beat, Fritz said, “I’ll take a drug test and make it public if Henry will take an IQ test and make it public.”
Hollings won easily in what most people thought was McMaster’s last race.

3. Hollings last term was in 1998- The Republican Nominee was Bob Inglis.

Bob Inglis was elected to his old US House seat and later lost his seat in the Republican primary to Trey Gowdy.

You should have bet me. McMaster ran against him back in 1986.
I do remember that Fritz came close to winning that race 2:1, even while the state was turning red.
