Great words from American presidents:
If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter. - George Washington
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. - Abraham Lincoln In every battle there comes a time when both sides consider themselves beaten, then he who continues the attack wins. - U.S. Grant Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists. - Franklin Roosevelt Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron. - Dwight Eisenhower If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich. - John F. Kennedy and then we get: “Oh my God, this is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. I’m fucked.” - Donald J. Trump

2. You are entirely welcome...
You know, each of the men quoted (other than DT) was a man of his times, with the perspectives one would expect; but that being said, they all rose above the realities in which they were bounded and accomplished great things, and left admirable legacies... And each, one would think, is worthy of respect because of that and could be trusted implicitly to do what was right for the country.. But none of them, I think, would have waste two minutes on someone like Trump; they'd all see through him like a pane of glass. And if they saw what a Trump-like individual in their own time was doing to the country, I'd expect each of them, from Washington to Kennedy, to step up and help drive such a man from office. |
