If not 270 then the House decides

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/adam-nicholas-phillips/doomsday-savior-how-paul-ryan_b_9474788.html

"If neither candidate gets 270 electoral college votes, Congress picks the president. And he will be called President Mitt, the one who is laying the groundwork for this doomsday electoral scenario."

7. Correct!

Why is that so hard for people to figure out? (Yes, I'm looking at the "Bernie Or Bust" crowd!)

4. This assumes that the Dem nominate won't landslide both. 78-3

Cali Washington Oregon and Hawaii = 78 Electoral Collage votes
Alaska = 3

When the states east of the Mississippi strart getting called on election night add 78 to the Dem total and 3 to the Repub total. Virtual locks. Those states make up almost 30% of the needed 270.

To think that a third party candidate of either side would pull more than 15% of the EC votes is a stretch. To think that suddenly the 47% of people voting would expand to an available 60-65% is lunacy.

6. Adam Phillips is an idiot.

Sure they could run a third party. But the problem is the votes in blue states will still go blue. While those in purple or near purple will have the odds increased to go blue. What they forget is that the winner of a state is determined by whoever receives the most votes. Any third party candidate put forth by the GOP is going to peel a whole lot more votes from Trump than the Democratic candidate. Thus diluting their votes.
