I'm going to put ubuntu 14.04 on it, How do I get into the bios to set it where it will boot from the usb or dvd drive. either will be fine with me.

thanks in advance.

it comes with windows 10
I'm not a windows user and will not be learning a new operating system. All I want to know is how to get to the bios to set it where I can boot to a dvd or usb drive and install Ubuntu

You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and maybe ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot configuration" on the settings page shown below, before you can attempt to install an alternate OS;

and it was a no go so I downloaded the 64 bit version and will try again. I disabled secure boot but didn't do anything to legacy support. This evening I'll give it another try.

I'll read this link you provided first too

Thanks

I had to change the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy to install Linux Mint.

The article at the link says Ubuntu supports Secure boot.

Choose a Linux Distribution That Supports Secure Boot: Modern versions of Ubuntu — starting with Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS and 12.10 — will boot and install normally on most PCs with Secure Boot enabled. This is because Ubuntu’s first-stage EFI boot loader is signed by Microsoft. However, a Ubuntu developer notes that Ubuntu’s boot loader isn’t signed with a key that’s required by Microsoft’s certification process, but simply a key Microsoft says is “recommended.” This means that Ubuntu may not boot on all UEFI PCs. Users may have to disable Secure Boot to to use Ubuntu on some PCs.

later this evening I'll give it another try.

I'm a long ways from giving up. this computer is for my wife and she doesn't do much except some work stuff on it and her old laptop did just fine with that using ubuntu. It was old and gave up the ghost a few days ago.

Neither of us want to learn a new operating system. We're both comfortable with Ubuntu.

I installed 14.04 mate with no problems. now when I restart it boots to the window10 rather than give me an option to boot to ubuntu.

Help me figure that out please.

TIA

I'm really not windows literate and don't really care to become one

I left it a dual boot but may have to reinstall and not do a dual boot as neither my wife or I care to learn windows 10

ETA: have that figure out and now its booting to ubuntu. Downloading updates now.

Awesome

Thanks for all the help you all gave me. I'm forever indebted to you
