It adequately covers antivirus and firewall needs for most home users. In other words, for most people, in most circumstances, you already have what you need.
If you are running a business, or otherwise have high-security needs, you might want something more heavy duty. I'll leave it for someone else to make that recommendation.
[Added later]Generally speaking, you should be running the computer in a standard account, and not an administrator account. If you do pick up a virus or other kind of malware, and you are running as a standard user, the amount of damage that can be done is relatively minimal.
If you are administrator and your computer picks up a bug, that bug has as much access to the machine as you do.

(21,506 posts)The windows software is not so good at adware and spyware. I usually recommend Malwarebytes in conjunction with the native windows security.

(1,642 posts)I am also careful about what I download.
Ultimately, the computer is only as safe as the practices of the person operating it.
Malwarebytes, Windows defender, Symantec, ESAT, Kasperski, and the others cannot protect users against bad decisions.
Feel free to make your recommendation to the poster.

(8,308 posts)I installed Firefox with AdBlock, Malware Bytes and Avira (free). Maybe overkill but it all seems to be working just fine. I shop and pay bills online with no problems.

(29 posts)Windows 10, Windows defender, Avast AV, Ad block/spyware block plugins to browser and a good dose of common sense of where I get my software.
