I don't click links related to password stuff in emails. Period.

But then, most reputable services don't ask you to.

How this one got through the spam filter baffles me, though.

irritatedly,
Bright

As far as I know I don't have any "Microsoft accounts."

The juxtaposition between the two was a red flag.

As far as I know they are not best buds.

cannily,
Bright

Looks like this scam's been around a while:

On edit: Sorry for long URL. You'll need to copy/paste entire thing to get to that page.

then someone else is messing with your account. Microsoft then wants you to go to the link and reset your password. I've done it myself before. This is the reset your password page:

https://account.live.com/resetpassword.aspx

They are saying that you have a microsoft account, for which you use your gmail address. Your gmail address has been changed at microsoft.

You can tell because they want you to click on "account.live.com". Microsoft would not have such a domain.

Yeah, this is phishing, very clumsily done phishing.

ETA: Don't believe any "Microsoft" phone calls, either. You call them, they never call you.

I already deleted it, after alerting GMail's anti-phishing team.

What I'm trying to resist is the temptation to think there's any connection at all with me having just posted some anti-Septic Sphincter material on social media.

paranoiacally,
Bright

There are many red flags here.

1. Changing an account name without you requesting it.
2. Gmail email account, vs the email is purportedly from Microsoft.
3. The website is "account.live.com", why isn't it microsoft.com, or gmail.com?
4. A generic request from "The Microsoft team".
5. the Big One: Asking for your password, or any other personal information.
