Firefox is blocking DU (for me, after reinstalling)

I reset Windows on my laptop, which meant I had to reinstall several programs, including Firefox. I get "Your connection is not secure
The owner of www.democraticunderground.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website."

I click on the "Advanced" button.

"www.democraticunderground.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER"

I click on "Add exception", then "Confirm Security Exception."

"Your connection is not secure

I googled and found a troubleshooting page

But I tried the applicable things and no luck.

Dammit, I am used to Firefox. I hate having to change browsers when one of them fucks up.

22. OK, my comment might have sounded too harsh.

I think we have a great community of saavy computer users here....many have responded here. I have migrated to Opera from FF, but primarily due to memory issues. They have a smaller footprint, relative to Chrome and FF when I look at Task Manager....things seem to load quicker and I like the organization and tools that they have built in.

7. Not really, must have been a very temporary outage.

Click the green lock icon in the address bar to see the SSL is verified.

edit: If instead you're on a page at DU that shows a gray lock icon with orange exclamation point - "parts of this page are not secure" - instead of a green lock, that just indicates there are images hosted on non-https addresses in the thread you're viewing.

8. Be sure you are using https at the beginning, not http.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox on my desktop and DU is working fine.

Did you reinstalling it from scratch and make sure you have the latest version? If you had the option to install an earlier version, that could cause problems. Or, maybe the latest one has some quirks on your system.

Since you reset everything, could it be some Windows setting that's causing the problem? Or do you have another security program running-- Windows Defender is good enough for most things and often won't play nice with other security stuff.

If you try another browser and the same thing happens, it's obviously not Firefox.

FWIW, when I upgraded FF to this latest and greatest one, it's faster and seems more stable, but lost some of the goodies on the older one. Same thing happened when I upgraded Opera. I'm starting to use Vivaldi, which is a lot like the old Opera and really nice to work with.

And, you did note that the Mozilla help page said you might be compromised? While resetting, is there any chance you picked up some nasties? A Malwarebytes scan might find something.

14. So the weird thing is, I already had the new version of FF...

I had upgraded when it became available, with no probs. But after I had to reset Windows, I then needed to reinstall several programs which went away, including FF. Suddenly the new version is giving me shit. Chrome and IE work fine. I tried messing with settings and with my security settings, but nothing worked.

19. You're sure you're not running Norton or some other such thing? Some of them...

can't play well with others and strange things happen.

Other than that, I can't think of anything else but uninstall it with something like IObit or Revo Uninstaller that will clean out its registry entries and then reinstall it. Maybe try again after the next Windows security patch.

By the time the next update comes, I'll be all settled in with Chrome and wonder why I made such a fuss over this. LOL

13. I did not mean Firefox is blocking DU for everyone, just for me, since I had to reinstall.

I am pretty self-sufficient when it comes to computer things. I can usually troubleshoot and fix shit myself, but I gave up on this.

Time to get used to Chrome.

I'm using a Nightly beta version 59.0a1 (2017-12-15) (64-bit), and I have no problems at all.

Usually, if you go to your hard drive, delete all FF stuff except for your bookmarks and passwords and reinstall, you'll be fine. I always reboot just as a superstition after that to make sure my new settings are "set".

eta: on Firefox 57.0.2 (64-bit) now and no problems here.

I think it has something to do with AdBlock and Windows 10. I am using the Edge browser right now, which came with Win 10, because the newest FF wants to protect me from cross-scripting and trackers and lord knows what else. There used to be a menu from which I could tell FF to allow a site, but that no longer comes up.

I run a MWB scan monthly and use Avira anti-vi. A couple of days ago when I went to renew my star here, FF wouldn't allow me to access the page because it was deemed not "secure." I am just too busy right now to spend time researching how to fix this issue so I am hoping for someone to show up in this thread with good advice.
