Windows 11 sucks , don't fall for the its so great...

wouldn't work on the desktop, needs more memory. The HP laptop likes it but thats about it. Windows is out to take over your life and the world, don't do it if you use Firefox....don't do it if your help desk person is attached to it. Windows literally takes over everything and kicks aside everything to get it. It screwed with so many programs and caused havoc creating HP windows of death. After multiple trials and resets I am back to my normal. Keeping my fingers crossed. That was a bleeping mistake.

It didn't allow for defaults to search engine either bing & explorer.

You can use any search engine you want, on any browser.

You just need to know how to set it up on Edge.

To use Google, go to Google.com
To use Bing, go to Bing.com
To use DuckDuckGo, go to DuckDuckGo, and so on and so on.

2. Thanks for the warning

I go with Linux. There's a learning curve to burn, install, but all I needed to buy was an old hard drive, about 10 bucks. It can be installed dual boot beside Windows, but I'm not going that route either, unless I clone the drive first and use the backup. As you say, keep your normal safe.

Personally, I won't touch anything by Apple or Microsoft unless someone is paying me. (I do have a Windows 10 laptop, but I haven't used it much since the covid crisis began. Occasionally I start it up to recharge the batteries and download updates.)

For my personal desktop computers I quit Windows back at 98SE.

If someone gave me a new Apple I'd give it away like a hot potato to someone who cares.

If someone gave me a fancy Windows desktop I'd give that away as well.

For anyone who has a $100 to spare and wants to learn Linux in a supportive community without risk to their main Windows or Apple machine, the new Raspberry Pi 400 is interesting.

Linux also runs well on most any old computer that ran Windows 7 or above, especially if you can max out the memory and install a Solid State had drive. Where I live it's not uncommon for people to give these older computers away.

Unlike Windows, Linux just works for me with the least amount of frustration and expense.

9. upgraded to mac os big sur. has some problems like hanging up

and keeps hangng up untill u use command /option /escape. have to do it a couple of times befoe it takes the knack( signal) to restart. also safari will pop up on its own even if u dont want it as your default browser and will do that multiple times . otherwise no issues . my last windoze machine was a dell with windoze xp . ugh. never m$ and dell again.also m$ was to fix the os after windowze nt . (never their) but ms keeps changing the gui all the time .

My W10 system was updated last automatically 8/8/2020.

Is there any chance that W11 will be installed automatically without my permission?
I'd like to stop it if I can. I've seen a lot of bad reviews and I hate to leave something I can work with OK.

Are you experienced enough to gut the OS until you can live with a working Win11?

In my experience, the creeping takeover is very real but my knowledge of how to circumvent it is also real. If you can, even with effort, nullify the 'shared experience' - it may be a good OS.

Win10 takes three days work to turn off all the shit that reports back. It can be done. Is 11 the same or is it a lost cause>?

17. OMG, I soooooooo regret upgrading!

The bloat is unbelievable. This morning I had to shut down my browser to run Zoom with video. Everything is slower, & I get repeating error messages when I open Outlook/Word/Excel.

JFC, did they even test this steaming pile of shit before releasing it?
