BSOD

I had the BSOD twice today just as I booted my computer up. The second one happened when the computer rebooted from the first one. I ran a diagnostic thing and submitted it to the Microsoft forum and they said it was McAfee. WTH? I've used Mcafee for years and never had it cause a BSOD.

Any thoughts? (Yes, I know McAfee isn't the most popular of virus programs here.) They want me to use Windows Security Essentials and I hate WSE - it takes forever to do a damn scan.

Check for fake MSE

BSOD on bootup can be a failing HD. Do you hear any clicking sound. If so you need to clone your HD before it locks up.

No, there was no clicking sound. I removed McAfee Site Advisor and haven't had any problems on the last 4 reboots I did.

My brother had this same issue a couple of days ago and he had recently installed Site Advisor. Both of our computers are fairly new and I think there was a Windows 7 x64 problem with Site Advisor but we shall see.

Thanks for the reply.

It does quick scans in the background without hogging resources and it stops every nasty thing going around. They've also been the ones most on the ball tracking down new nasties.

It's not the cheapest but it's the least intrusive one I've found.

since it has to check every file on the hard drive on all the partitions. If I run a full scan on my main system it takes about an hour-of course that's 1.5Tb on partitions up to Drive letter K:
A quick scan shouldn't take more than 10 minutes-on my system it's more like 5.
