On a lighter note, can anyone suggest what I should do?
For about 2 years I have been receiving e-mail addressed to...the same address I use but in all CAPS.
I delete them immediately.
Last week, out of frustration, I sent an e-mail to the address I use but again, in all caps.
I thought this receipt of mail was a glitch in Hotmail.
Well....I should have known better. I am now deluged with e-mail from this sender. It is obvious that there is no screen at Hotmail to prevent this from happening. All the e-mail is one form or another of advertising. A pain in the neck.
Can you tell me what would happen if I 'blocked sender' for the address in Caps, will it block mine too?(lower case)
My address is the same except it is all lower case.
I am so sick of this baloney.
I thought it was a real person. How naive of me.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'd like to block the 'all caps' address but am concerned that it will block other e-mail.
This old granny would appreciate any suggestions.

(37,457 posts)Just block all the people who send you email using your email address IN ALL CAPS. That should do the trick. Just make sure you don't accidentally block yourself sending yourself a test message in all caps. Unfortunately every day or every week, you will have to continually block addresses. The spammers (people who send unsolicited commercial emails) are very clever and have ways to find your email address. Make sure you NEVER post your email address on a public website (like this one) or allow anyone to send you anything when you sign up for catalogs or offers. Make sure to uncheck those boxes before you agree to anything.
I would set up another Outlook.com address to use to subscribe to things. Use your personal one for your friends and family.

(3,270 posts)So if the From: field matches your To: field, and it is a hotmail/outlook/live address, Microsoft should be able to tell that this message did not originate from one of their servers, and move it to your Junk folder.
Under options, make sure you have "Filters and reporting" : "Standard" and "Report Junk" selected.
When you receive one of these messages, check the message and click the Junk menu item. Outlook is pretty quick at figuring out what is valid and what is junk.

(7,471 posts)I should have mentioned that I have marked all of these messages as 'junk and they come in as junk mail.. It is still a pain in the pa-toot to have to cope with them on a daily basis.
I hoped that blocking the address(all Caps) would do the trick.
I may try it yet.
I do have an account for family and close friends.
Never had a problem with the 'family' address, it is just Hotmail.

(37,457 posts)If you fill up the junk folder it should automatically delete the oldest items in as fast as 3 days. You may want to experiment with it.
In addition to ZigZag3143x post, please be informed that its' by default that the Junk Folder default deletion time is 10 days. I suggest that you use the Empty folder rather than waiting for the 10 days period. You can also create a Custom Filter or Rules to avoid receiving their email. Please refer to the steps below on how to do this:
1. Sign in to Outlook.com.
2. Click the gear icon on the upper right corner beside your name.
3. Select More mail settings.
4. Under Customizing Outlook, click Rules for sorting new messages.
5. Click New.
6. For this step you will be asked to setup your rule.
7. Under Step 1: Which messages do you want this rule to apply to?
Choose the condition that you want to apply, 3 fields are required for this step. On the first field when you click the drop down button you have,
- Sender's address, Sender's name ,To /cc address, Subject and Messages has attachments.
- On the second field you have is, contains, contains word, does not contain, begins with, ends with.
- On the third field you will enter the word that can conclude the action of the 2 fields (for example Sender's name, is, Hotmail Team).
8. Under Step 2: What action do you want to apply? Select the action for your desired settings.
9. Click Save.

Just set your filters to block that sender or move it directly to the spam folder.
