I clicked on tools then options and got this:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: chrome://browser/content/preferences/advanced.js:259

I use windows xp, hp desktop, firefox. I saw the word chrome and became curious. I get this popup often and thought it was my slow dialup causing it, but I have seen others complain about it.

The problem is that the web browser is trying to run a program built into a web page, but that program's running slowly. It could be because of an older computer that's slower. Or it could be due to something called memory swapping to disk. If it's the latter, then rebooting the computer might fix it for a while (hours or days, most likely).

I was using Chrome for a few years, but it started to become ill-behaved, so I switched back to Firefox. Not perfect, either, but works better for me.

Basically there is the webpage/content area and all of the other stuff (e.g. menus, toolbars, buttons, etc.) are part of the application user interface and collectively called Chrome. The URL you posted is a script to run something in the Options menu - the most likely cause is an add-on or extension that added a menu item (it might be obvious what add-on has placed something in the menu).

You could try opening FireFox in Safe mode (FireFox menu >> Help >> Restart with Add-ons Disabled...) to see if the problem goes away. If it does then try restarting the browser disabling your add-ons one at a time (or disabling them all and enabling them one at a time) to find which add-on is causing the javascript issue.
