Crazy problem with my netbook has me vexed

It takes a bit of explaining . . .

Right before the problem I was downloading archived files for a radio show I like, I was on the 7th or 8th show download, when I got a little window popup saying a "script has stopped working" and "do you want to stop the script". I get one of these several times a week, and I always click the "stop the script" box and sometimes I have to re-save the picture I was downloading (I download a lot of pics for my own use, I'm an artist), and this is what I did for the audio file. When the window asked me where to put the file, I did my usual, which was to highlight the name of the file (the original name was just some numbers) to the name of that particular show. It wouldn't let me. I couldn't delete it, cut and paste anything on top of it or post next to it, so I proceeded with the download and went in to rename it in the folder where I put it. Again, it wouldn't allow me change it. Then I noticed I couldn't type normally. I tried to type some things into google, and nothing would happen, so I laid on a key and after a few seconds it started to type, but not the key I was holding down. For example, when I type j, I hold on the key, and it comes out, j[[[[[[[[[. The scrolling is crazy also. When I left click to navigate (the touch pad is not working consistently now) the choices highlight one after another very fast and I can't even get that box off the screen without messing with it for a few minutes. I restarted twice, downloaded the Windows updates that have been alerting me for a few days . . . problem still there.

It's a Toshiba netbook I've had for about 3 years. I like solving mysteries, but this one I'm not enjoying.: (

I am going to assume some flavor of Windows and either Firefox or Internet Exploder.

Your best bet is to close all windows and reboot. Delete the file once you restart. Then try again.

If you are using a download manager plug-in, that may be the cause of the script timeout error. Sometimes, plug-ins/add-ons can cause the thread running the browser to consume too much CPU and Memory.. making the entire browser act flakey.

Make sure you have the latest stable version of browser and add-ons/plug-ins.

They usually work themselves out, or another update comes right on its heals and it's fixed. But its never went this haywire before. I recently, maybe middle of last week, noticed a Firefox update, but these glitches only started happening last night. The Windows updates I downloaded this morning. I have a download manager, but I wouldn't know which plug-in to delete. The script error message has been going on for months, and it's only occasional, but enough that it's annoying. I'll be waiting for a few minutes for a page to load, or a picture to download to the desktop, and then this little message will pop up.

I also have a couple of things that chronically try to download, an Adobe update and a Quicktime update that, when I try to install them always fail. Every once in a while I'll be waitin and waitin for something and, sure enough, it's one of those little message 'effers attempting to load.

I'll try to check the Firefox and Windows websites to see what the up-to-date add-ons/plug-ins are.

ETA . . . thanks for the assistance, for taking the time
