2. Depends what you mean by protection

For power - I use an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) which supplies power when a power cut happens so you can turn your machine off safely.

For anti-virus software I use Malware-bytes.

All the anti-virus programs have good and not so good points, so it really up to you what you want. Take a look at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372364,00.asp which will give you some good info.

and the fix is to add SP3.

Except you have no need for malware protection if you are using a standard UNIX based OS which is what Open Source and Free Open Source Software is. The only exception being Android software downloads which are sometimes written by less than reputable hacks.

And... don't hand out information when asked by an unknown.

5. Basic, IMO, is a good reliable quality UPS. A quality router with a

firewall built in, + a sw firewall. VPN, if needed. Of course, running Linux. ... running rootkits, etc. And, most of all, cockpit sense! On virtual machines running windoz, some virus/malware protection, etc. to avoid propagation to windoze users. ... etc., etc. ...

I made the switch years ago and I've not looked back and won't be looking back. I don't miss the blue screen of death at all. When I did make the change it was like I got a whole new computer as it was so much faster than when it was running xp.

I'm using Windows Defender antivirus software on my PC and Laptop. Its one of the best antivirus software to protect your PC and laptop from viruses.
