Who's the future of the GOP?

There's quite a bit of Paul Ryan 2020 sentiment out there. As a Democrat, is there anyone you see on the horizon for the Republicans who you find tolerable? Anyone with vision and principles that don't turn your stomach?

And if you had a choice between Trump and Ryan today, who is the lesser of the evils?

1. Donald Trump. He entered the Convention yesterday looking like the WWE's "The Undertaker". . .

What better image for the future of that now useless "Grand Old Party" than its chief pallbearer?

2. The political ideology of the Republican party make both choices unacceptable.

Ryan is smarter, a subtle fascist to trumps radical totalitarian.

3. Same as the future for the Whigs.

After this election I see a big split and fracturing of their party of hate. The ones left that are still somewhat reasonable will be the end of the GOP as we know it when they split off.

6. Nope. Its future will be determined by minority conservatives

together with white conservatives. Eventually. Not real soon as it'll require a splitting off of minority conservatives from liberal. Whether the type of people who disgraced the Republican Convention last night remain in the party as troublemakers or take their vicious bigotry, at least briefly, to an angry third party... ? All around them last night were plenty of empty seats, though, of those convention-goers who'd had more than enough of them.

Before then, who knows?

Just speculating about an impossible worst-case scenario--because Trump has been losing by every measure since the beginning of the year and will not win--but winners if Trump won:

* Religious/business extremist Mike Pence
* Those social and religious extremists who are responsible for the scary Republican platform
* Ultraconservative ultrawealthy anti-government money interests.
* Business-serving conservative leaders like Ryan, McConnell, Scott Walker, etc., etc., etc.
* Fascism.

Why?

On November 28, Donald Trump goes to trial in Low v Trump. It's the first of three Trump "University" civil cases to have a trial date set and is expected to last a month. He's guilty as hell. If somehow he personally got through that okay and was sworn in, trials in two more TU cases will follow, one of them a class-action civil suit under federal RICO anti-racketeering law.

Even if those didn't do it inevitably at some point he would provide the GOP leadership and others like the 700+ Koch alliance legal means to remove him from office, and by then the entire right would be glad to turn to a President Pence, who could be counted on to serve God and the Kochs without conflict.

Btw, on Friday will be a hearing in the first case, with another in August. Trump doesn't have to attend.
