What I've Learned.

First of all, let me make this clear. I am not attacking Sen. Bernie Sanders. He has an extraordinary legacy as a U.S. Senator and he has run a great campaign. You can count me as one who was originally a primary swing voter. But I want to let you know something about what I've learned as a voter. In the year 2000, I was unhappy with Vice President Al Gore and my perception that, as the Democrats presidential candidate, he was not doing enough to appeal to progressives and liberal voters. In November of 2000, I made the mistake of throwing my vote to Ralph Nader. As you all know, George W. Bush was sworn in as President the following year. The thanks that I got for voting for Ralph Nader was of course the war in Iraq, the Patriot Act, two Bush appointees on the Supreme Court and a bunch more on the lower federal courts, an administration completely apathetic if not antagonistic to the environment, an administration hostile to church and state separation via Bushes faith based initiatives and of hands off economic policies that caused the economic crisis of 2008 as well the Supreme Court decisions of Heller v. Columbia which was a disaster for common sense gun control legislation and of course the campaign finance decision Citizens United. It is not wise for me to demand that Bernie Supporters to act against what they know in their heart is right, but urge you to look into the future as I once refused to do and consider what it will be like living under a Trump Presidency.

The primary season is when I vote for who I want in the WH. General election season....always vote D. Straight across the board.

Thanks for your candid post. It's tempting to point to one cause (i.e. Nader voters) for the disaster that were the Bush-Cheney years, but many factors colluded to achieve that end.

I was singularly shocked that news figures focused exclusively on style over substance following the debates, finishing with their infamous declaration that GWB was the candidate most people would "like to have a beer with".

More than anything, that oft-repeated mantra caused this baby-boomer to swear off mainstream news for the past 16 years, knowing the insipid damage they will do in their never-ending quest for profit.
