What other recent President would have risked missing spending Christmas with family?

None.

In the past Presidents drop everything and run off to a holiday vacation. Obama is busy trying to get Congress to do something.

I congratulate him on putting his duty before vacation.

Obama hates Christmas, so that's not really a fair question. JoePhilly Dec 2011 #1

It's what makes Colbert so go in my estimation. He actually does a better "Fox and Friends" than they do. They sound incoherent and stupid. He actually makes their arguments better than they do.

One of his favorite tricks is when he has some left leaning guest on and he asks the "what's wrong with that" question. They explain the potential downsides or catastrophy associated with a particular strategy that he suggests and his response is something along the line of "And that's good right?"

He never backpeddles from his statements and accepts the natural conclusions of his positions. Fox and Friends just wander all over the place and just deny any downsides.

Seriously, I applaud that. And the righties who whine that Michelle and the girls should have stayed, so as to save the taxpayers from two flights, can walk off a short pier.

Yes, I have seen whining to that effect.
