Excellent quotes from President Obama regarding marijuana.

"I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol."

"We should not be locking up kids or individual users for long stretches of jail time when some of the folks who are writing those laws have probably done the same thing."

“It's important for it to go forward because it’s important for society not to have a situation in which a large portion of people have at one time or another broken the law and only a select few get punished."

These are most sensible comments I have ever heard from a U.S. President on this subject.

Thank you, President Obama, for having courage and common sense!

Not at all flattering either. This is not GD, not a forum for debate; we are a GROUP, specifically devoted to promoting President Obama's policies. Please don't hand us that threadbare excuse of not realizing where you are. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Repeat offenders rather quickly get themselves banned, just in case you've been misled elsewhere as to how long-suffering we tend to be.

Any further such negative comments will be given short shrift, I assure you.

'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' One-Year Repeal Anniversary: 25 Amazing Moments

"President Obama issued the following statement about the anniversary:"

A year ago today, we upheld the fundamental American values of fairness and equality by finally and formally repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ Gay and lesbian Americans now no longer need to hide who they love in order to serve the country they love. It is a testament to the professionalism of our men and women in uniform that this change was implemented in an orderly manner, preserving unit cohesion, recruitment, retention and military effectiveness. As Commander in Chief, I’ve seen that our national security has been strengthened because we are no longer denied the skills and talents of those patriotic Americans who happen to be gay or lesbian. The ability of service members to be open and honest about their families and the people they love honors the integrity of the individuals who serve, strengthens the institutions they serve, and is one of the many reasons why our military remains the finest in the world.

"Gays get extra 'marriage leave"

Gay and lesbian servicemembers assigned more than 100 miles from a state where same-sex marriages are legal, or assigned overseas, will be granted extra days of leave to travel where they can marry legally, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced Wednesday.

The homosexual “marriage leave,” effective immediately and allowable only once in a member’s career, won’t count against 30 days annual leave that every active duty member earns.

Non-chargeable leave of up to seven days will be granted if the gay or lesbian member or service couple who wants to wed is assigned within the continental United States. Those wishing to marry while posted outside of the continental U.S will get up to 10 days of extra leave.

Hagel explained his reasoning for the extraordinary benefit in Aug. 13 memo to service secretaries which also directed that full military benefits be provided to married gay members, including spouse ID cards, by Sept. 3.

Since anything but Kona Gold burns my throat and you'll never find THAT around here, and I don't want to smoke it anyway, some sweet day my brownies are going to taste even better than ever! Besides, pairing it with such a high-calorie treat will discourage more than the lightest indulgence. I've slowly and carefully lost 55 lbs over the last 18 months, and I don't mean to gain back a single one.

I'll also need to grow my own; have you seen the prices????

I stopped partaking years ago but I'm happy for all those who want to use it medicinally and recreationally. Here's to the day people can grow their own pot. I think the taxed pot will still have plenty of revenue$$$$.

I was nicely surprised! Everything President Obama said is totally accurate and it needed to be said. I can see why he doesn't want to encourage his daughters to smoke it or anyone's kids. He had that experience and he knows he got more done without it.

And, then AG Holder's statement coming on top of that.. Action!

"Eric Holder's Latest Quote Is a Huge Win For Marijuana Legalization"

"The news: United States Attorney General Eric Holder gave marijuana legalization supporters some good news on Thursday: he believes that pot businesses operating legally should be able to use federally regulated banks.

According to The New York Times, this new federal policy “would tell prosecutors not to prioritize cases involving legal marijuana businesses using banks.” Meaning pot shops could store money in federal banks without having to worry about law enforcement coming after them."

Personally, I'm excited about this.. and people not getting put in jail for pot.

Same here! The President is taking the sane approach here. He realizes that it is just plain wrong for people's lives to be ruined for smoking a little pot. I am very glad he spoke up.

President Obama has the ideas, the message and the courage.

The war on weed is a big waste of money and resources. And it has ruined too many lives.

I'm 100% for legalization and proud of the President for his comments!
