they weren't there at all when the Democrats controlled Congress so of course this is the only possible option.

Personally I'll be spending my time making sure Democrats beat Republicans.

unprovable, but when it comes to average soft middle of the road not really caring voters, who I am sure are more numerous that the left who won't vote for Democrats because they aren't progressive enough, maybe the ACA and the rest scared them a bit and they want to slow down and see how that works and make sure we don't slide into "socialism." They wanted to do it but take it slow and see how it went.
