Swedish Startup to Bring Pogo Sticks to San Francisco as E-Scooter Alternative

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — San Franciscans may soon be able to bounce their way around town, if a Swedish-based mobility company has its way.

Earlier this month, start-up company Cangoroo announced plans to deploy hundreds of pogo sticks in select cities to directly compete with electric scooters as a transportation option.

Cangoroo officials said they plan to first launch their pogo sticks in the Swedish cities of Malmo and Stockholm sometime this summer.

After that, they would deploy the sticks in both London and San Francisco.

On Friday, Cangoroo CEO and co-founder Adam Mikkelsen said his company chose San Francisco as one of its launch cities because of its reputation as place of innovation.

He added that Cangoroo could start deploying anywhere between 100 and 200 pogo sticks in San Francisco as early as late summer or possibly in the fall.

These look seriously dangerous to me -- and there isn't really a way to carry anything on them except perhaps a small backpack.

We've already had a lot of bad accidents involving e-scooters in the San Diego area, where the city is now getting sued by disability rights activists for disabled clients mowed down by scooters and there was a death of a drunk scooter operator who ran into something after leaving a bar. At least with a scooter you can put your foot down if you start to tip or hop off but what do you do when your pogo stick is crashing over?

I couldn't decide whether to post this in my usual forum - Environment & Energy - as a zero emissions method of transportation, or just as very Weird News.

outside of the driveway?

Not only is it actually work, and a lot more of it than a CitiBike, you need good balance to stay on the thing at all, and I can't imagine hopping up and down San Francisco's hills.

Hopefully someone's going to tell these idiots that San Francisco is built on the side of a mountain.

I had a pogo stick as a kid and I don't know how people get it to keep going straight.

And the scooters can't use a lot of fuel anyway, can they?

7. A pogo stick to get around San Francisco?

Up hills? Did anyone think of that?

Also, you can’t hold anything such as a shopping bag, briefcase, or a purse. A backpack would throw you off balance.

Pogo sticks seem like hard work.

It actually sounds like an incredibly stupid idea.

O.K. Class, Write about yourselves. What would get you excited? What do you do in your spare time, etc.

SAN FRANCISCO (WTF SF) — San Franciscans may soon be able to jog their way around town, if a Bangaldeshi-based mobility company has its way.

Earlier this month, start-up company Cangorun announced plans to deploy hundreds of running shoes in select cities to directly compete with electric scooters as a transportation option.

Cangorun officials said they plan to first launch their personal foot-protectors in the Swedish cities of Malmo and Stockholm sometime this summer.

After that, they would deploy the socks in both London and San Francisco.

On Friday, Cangorun CEO and co-founder Adnan Mortaza said his company chose San Francisco as one of its launch cities because of its reputation as place of gullibility.

He added that Cangorun could start deploying anywhere between 100 and 200,000 pairs of trainers in San Francisco as early as late summer or possibly in the fall "because we already make them for the city like everywhere else, but this time we're doubling the price and marketing them ourselves as a "transportation option".
