Florida man pumps gas through a fishing pole slot on his boat


ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Mistakenly putting the fuel pump into a fishing pole holder, a Florida man pumped $60 worth of gas onto the deck of his boat and on the ground of a gas station, officials said.

The gasoline mishap happened on Monday near Orlando, Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said on Twitter.

The gas flowed from the fishing pole holder and onto the deck of the 24-foot vessel. The 31-year-old man didn't notice the mistake right away and pumped $60 of fuel. ....... (more)

Usually it's not the boat owner. Someone wants to be helpful while the owner is distracted and fuel goes into the bilge or some compartment.

It's one of the reasons marinas won't pump fuel for customers; they just hand you the nozzle. The other is they don't want to be responsible for spills.

So yea, it happens a lot.
