(1,587 posts)590 miles. That would be about 8 miles of hair a year (75 years). Being a barber would be hard work. I think they perhaps meant meters and not kilometers. That's still over 3000 ' of hair or 41 feet/year (75 years). Somethings doesn't add up.

(8,752 posts). . . a one in 10 chance of getting electrocuted? Doesn't that mean that 1 out of 10 people die that way? Sort of puts everything else there to question.

(2,231 posts)10 years of school... Is that a world-wide average? It's certainly not the average in the US or most industrialized countries.
17 friends while in school? How do they define friends? For even very close friends that number seems a bit low. And only 2 friends at 40. Holy crap I'm lucky. I'd consider a lot more than 2 of my many friends to be close friends. And I keep in regular contact (at least once/week) with a lot more than that.

(18,133 posts)Its not just the hair on your head they are talking about. All your little hair follicles are growing hair shedding it and re growing all of the time.

(34,136 posts)Strung end to end. Even if your head hair grows (I seem to remember reading somewhere) a half inch a month, how many hairs do you have on your head AND body?
OK, here is what I found:
On the average there are over one hundred thousand strands of hair on a young adult. Blondes average about 140,000 strands, brunettes average 108,000 and redheads average 90,000. Hair grows at a rate of about 150mm a year and each individual hair lasts for two to six years before it falls out, the follicle has a rest for a while, while another takes its place. Hair grows quickest in young adult women aged between sixteen and twenty-four (who are often then at the height of their possible reproductive capacity)
So 100,000 hairs times 150mm a year = 15km a year times 70 years = 1050 km, a little less than their estimate. Which makes sense, because those figures were for a young adult woman and babies and old people grow less hair.

(616 posts)I will say that it's incredible reading all of this. The sleep one is the one that bothers me most. Which is probably why I hate sleeping for long periods of time.
