Many of them are heavily, emotionally invested in Bernie. Let them get over their disappointment and they'll be more likely to consider your proposal.

They want her to fail.

But it's all Sanders' fault for limping along in a campaign he lost long ago. Were he to suspend his campaign and go away á la Marco Rubio, the media would need to change focus. Unfortunately, Sanders and his surrogates now have plenty of time on their hands to appear for TV interviews. They are no longer spending any time trying to win. Ergo, he's still out there front and center in the media, when he should by all rights be sitting in the also-ran section of the race.

I have come to loathe Sanders.

talks about defeating Hillary Clinton. You don't hear them talking about Bernie except occasionally the forlorn hope that he will be the nominee. Of course they want to run against the weaker candidate.
