(16,104 posts)her husband has left her hung out to dry on this issue?
I can't remember any other national candidate ever saying, "Don't ask me - see my wife," on any subject!

(4,035 posts)Can you imagine the reaction if HRC had said that - that that was her husband's job? She'd be crucified, that's what.

(86,562 posts)distinctly recall Bernie stating in one of the debates that it was Jane who did their taxes and he'd have to defer to her on that. Then he unequivocally PROMISED that they would be out soon. like within a week... and that was a couple days before rushing off to not have a sit-down with the Pope.
So true people would be calling for her head! Once again, there's one standard for everyone else, and a different one for HRC.

(15,366 posts)need to be checked over are for 2015. I know that we always double and triple-check before we file and I don't believe that they have filed the 2015 returns yet.
But why would returns from prior to 2014 require checking?

(15,366 posts)did she even realize that she effectively has requested one? Even if not in writing. Or perhaps they'll be able to say that they were out of the country on April 15 since that was the day the entire family went to Rome, ultimately to waylay the Pope on his way to Lesbos.
I realize that the actual deadline this year was April 18. But in view of the Pope visit on April 15, perhaps the IRS will cut them some slack so that they won't be subject to a late filing fee.
Some remarks that Jane and Bernie have made recently make me wonder whether either one or both might be at least one egg short of a dozen.

(3,284 posts)Don't worry about it?! Especially when she (or her husband) follows it with a comment about how HRC should release transcripts.
You just know that if HRC did release transcripts, they'd come up with some other crap she needs to make available to the public. As if her whole life isn't already out there for everyone to see!

(12,448 posts)She interrupts the interviewer to tell him what SHE wants to talk about. Guess what, Jane; it doesn't work that way. They ask, you answer. Or tell them you refuse to answer. Avoiding the question only makes you look stupid and dishonest.

(67,782 posts)...if she just submitted them, why do they have to be checked out? Did she submit false or incorrect tax returns just 12 days ago?

(2,792 posts)1. Severance pay ($200,000) for Jane from Burlington College (2011 or 2012 filing year).
2. Other benefits paid to Jane from Burlington College (besides severance).
3. Campaign funds paid to Jane for her "consultant" work for Bernie's campaign (what is she worth?).
4. $4000 paid again to Jane as alternate member of toxic waste committee (re Sierra Blanco).
5. Rents from multiple properties (what assets were they taking so many deductions for?).
Jane does the taxes, and Jane has the embarrassing stuff to hide (including assets producing income). That's why I think that Bernie would be willing to let her take the blame, even though he also signed the forms. But he isn't good at "math and numbers" (shown by his tax and spend proposals), so it wasn't his fault.
ETA: They probably should have chosen "married filing separately" status.

(9,148 posts)I'm betting there are also a few surprises that would torpedo what's left of his sad limping campaign.
Isn't today the FEC deadline too? May 11th.

and yes Today May 11th is a deadline for the FEC letter about a month or so ago!

(6,444 posts)http://www.thepeoplesview.net/main/2016/4/18/tax-return-confirms-sanders-financial-stake-in-toxic-nuclear-dump
For a quick refresher, refer back to our coverage of Bernie Sanders' eager support for Congressional legislation to expedite movement of Vermont's nuclear waste to Texas as well as his cavalier disregard for Texans and Vermonters who opposed the dump. We reported then that though Congress did not designate a specific site, the Congressional record was abundantly clear on where the likely site of the dump would be, near the low-income Latino community of Sierra Blanca. The protests of many progressives, including Paul Welstone's, fell on Bernie Sanders' deaf ears. The community, however, stood up and fought back. And, they won.
Besides from being eager to make his state's nuclear waste someone else's problem in a hurry, TPV writer Kris Jirapinyo noted that Jane O. Sanders, Bernie Sanders' wife, conveniently sat on the Board of Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Authority, or TLLRWDA, the entity which technically held the power to designate the dump site.
That much we already knew. Now, in light of Bernie Sanders' release of his 2014 taxes, we know that that Bernie and Jane Sanders financially benefit from her position on a Board that participates in willful poisoning of communities despite ample warning. According to their own tax return, Jane Sanders "materially participated" in the board, and received compensation.
For a candidate who cannot breathe a full sentence without baselessly accusing his opponent of taking money from special interests, the discovery that he and his wife financially benefit from nuclear toxic waste dumping is... really... something.

Her Sister
(6,444 posts)but then on April 29th as in the OP video Jane sanders said at the end of that interview that she was releasing more soon. That is about a week and a half ago! What happened!

(15,220 posts)When the Bernie camp acts like it's been a surprise to them that they are expected to release tax returns, it makes me wonder what ELSE they haven't considered for him to become President.
Surely, a good President would need the ability to foresee issues and be prepared.
Koinos
(2,792 posts)His foreign policy preparation seems very weak, and even his grasp of financial issues appears quite superficial. I think he just hasn't done his homework.
hamsterjill
(15,220 posts)I've often wondered if they ever truly expected to get this far. I think when Bernie started, before he became so hostile, his purpose was to move the platform to the left. I'm not sure that I believe he has ever fully assessed what would be required of him to actually BE President.
When he's asked about his own agenda, he gives the same, tired answers - and somehow manages to get into every snippet how his average donation is $27! That doesn't tell ME how he is planning to deal with North Korea. He wants to break up the banks, but I've yet to understand what he'll do as replacement.
He wants to give free healthcare to everyone, which I applaud, but to do that, based on the information that he's given as to his proposals, will cost me $8,000 more per year in taxes with me reaping little to no benefit from that increased taxation. I can't afford that, and I am no where near wealthy.
If Kim Jong Un attacks us, I'd like to know that Bernie will be willing to do more than just have a group hug. Bernie never seems to answer that - he only repeats and repeats and repeats that he is against war. Well, we are ALL against war. But what would he do if war is thrust upon the United States and we have no choice about it.
I don't get a comfort level from him.
