If "news" headlines were honest. cbs "news:" "We came, we saw, we lied." (repost HRC Group)

This is a repost of my original thread back in September. I've just cross posted it to gd p as well. Please feel free to copy and paste or link to this OP. I've noticed it's also making the rounds on kos. Please feel free to post to that and other websites that a running this. I'd appreciate credit. Thank you.

If "news" headlines were honest. cbs "news:" "We came, we saw, we lied."

If the news reported as honestly, frequently, and energetically about republicans as they report dishonestly, frequently, and energetically about Democrats, the republican party would be gone within 5 years.

During a series of interviews in Kabul, Afghanistan on October 20, 2011, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton received a text about another, unconfirmed report of gaddafi's capture.

cbs "news" captured those few moments on video. I've included a rough transcript of each clip. Some news sources used the first clip of the video; others used the second.

Second clip. The video continues:

(back of talking head) I mean, so that is the land of unconfirmed reports....
(HRC) Yes, we came, we saw, he died
(back of talking head) Do you think it had anything to do with your book?
(HRC) No, no, I'm sure it didn't

Clinton on Qaddafi: "We came, we saw, he died"

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shared a laugh with a television news reporter moments after hearing deposed Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi had been killed.

"We came, we saw, he died," she joked when told of news reports of Qaddafi's death by an aide in between formal interviews.

Clinton was in Tripoli earlier this week for talks with leaders of Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC).

The reporter asked if Qaddafi's death had anything to do with her surprise visit to show support for the Libyan people.

"No," she replied, before rolling her eyes and saying "I'm sure it did" with a chuckle.

The cynicism and dishonesty displayed by cbs bugs the hell out of me.

If you don't mind, please help keep kicked in gd p. I don't post much here (du) anymore and I'd really like to see this kind of garbage debunked.

All the articles I listed in the OP are based on the same event. Each outlet put its own spin on it. cbs had two different narratives they used. How the hell can anyone stay informed if the press plays "fast and loose" with facts; reporting some facts but not others, removing context from events, misleading headlines, burying the lead, inserting carefully selected quotes and conflating them into dishonest article.

It's not just the radical right wing (rrw) doing this. It's the very industry that many people rely on to stay informed and up to date. And, it's not just the so called, mainstream media doing it. I've seen the dishonest article and video posted as fact in many forums.

I'd also like to ask, as I asked Cha, if you wouldn't mind, please help keep the OP in gd p kicked so that hopefully, some of the dishonestly from the press can be seen by as many as just accepted the other video as fact.

Thanks again.
