and we always ask the younger voters if it's their first time voting. Some of them have a bit of fear in their eyes .

It's too expensive and we have a drought, but it's home. And we're going to bring it home today in the election!

Glorious weather. Lots of neighbors heading to vote at the church around the corner. We all walk our dogs to the polling place and take turns herding while we each go inside to vote. So far, only one person gummed up the works by demanding a No Party Affiliation but Democratic Party ballot when he was not listed in the registered voter roll book. They finally talked him into a provisional ballot, but he was not happy. They showed him where his name should be in the book, they showed him the entire congressional district spreadsheet, and asked him if he remembered where and how he registered to vote. He couldn't remember. When last seen, he was taking his provisional ballot over to a machine.

The rest of us had no problems. Seriously, it's not hard to register to vote or even to check your status. We started getting campaign mailings in February, for crying out loud. And party emails and tweets increased dramatically, starting in March.

It's not rocket surgery.

I love election day!

I voted by mail ages ago, so I'm still working my cup of coffee and reading the news. I am excited though!

Seriously, the registration materials are all online--you can even check it on your phone! Your info pops right up when you enter the form. His vote will be counted of course, but he shouldn't have let himself get anxious on the big day.

Next time, he'll be more informed and confident.

Which reminds me... Back when I was in 10th grade American History class, The League Of Women Voters set up voting booths in our HS gym and taught us how to vote. We "registered" in class, signed in at the polling table, and punched our ballots in the curtained booths. Of course, we were punching ballots with the little stylus on a chain, but we completed our ballots and dropped them in the box.

When it came time to vote in a real election, we knew what to expect. Of course, that was before The League Of Women Voters lost their "earmark" funding (because we all know how eeeeevilll earmarks are...GRRRR) and were overrun by rabid Texas Republican shellac-hairs doing the work of the Lord, Amen.

Anyway, today millions of new voters will learn how the process actually works, and that's a good thing. Plus, I don't have to water the plants in the courtyard because of the rain. Yay, me!
