It seems as though Hillary Clinton's long-anticipated vice presidential pick is right around the corner. According to the Associated Press, Clinton has narrowed her list down to three candidates, and will likely announce her running mate very soon — leading many voters to wonder, will Julián Castro be Clinton's vice president? He's one of the three primary choices, according to the AP report.

President Barack Obama appointed Castro to his cabinet in July 2014, asking the former mayor of San Antonio to be the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Understandably, this appointment elevated Castro's political career, and many Democrats saw it as a move to ready Castro for a vice presidential nomination in 2016. However, of the three candidates on Clinton's short-list — Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine are the others — the 41-year-old Castro has had the least high-profile political career, which some say could make him a less appealing vice presidential pick.

Many Democratic voters are excited by the idea of Clinton picking Elizabeth Warren to be her running mate — there's never been an all-female ticket before. Yet, Clinton picking Warren seems increasingly unlikely, since Clinton's Wall Street backers say they will end their financial support if Warren is the vice presidential nominee.

However, if Clinton wants to make her run extra-historic, Castro would also be a good vice presidential candidate: Castro would be the first Latino to run on a major party ticket. Clinton typically does well with Latino voters, and having Castro as her running mate would almost certainly ensure a landslide victory amongst Latino voters for Clinton against her opponent, Donald Trump.

Furthermore, Castro is relatively young, and Clinton does not poll well amongst young voters — in fact, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders did far better among young Latino voters than Clinton in the Democratic primaries. It's likely that Castro could attract young Latino and non-Latino voters alike, to the Clinton campaign — making him an understandably likely candidate.

2. Julian Castro is my choice, as well. I would say that the enthusiasm we see for Senator Warren is

the result of some Sanders supporters hoping at a second bite at the apple. Tim Kaine, imo, is much too boring.

We need a diverse ticket to show the new face of the Democratic Party. And, imo, were Hillary Clinton a candidate with less experience in public life and was less known as a prominent public figure, then Julian Castro wouldn't be a good choice. But our Democratic Party nominee has oodles of experience, connections, and is extremely well-liked by congressional Democrats that she can easily choose a less known public figure to be her VP. And who better than a young, incredibly intelligent, wonderful public speaker, "zen"-type who appeals to the fastest growing demographic in this country - Latinos - and who would only be 49 after two Madam President terms than Julian Castro?

15. "Massive Revolt"??? That's hyperbolic as all hell. He is a SOLID pick. Here is why:

* He is ready to be president on DAY ONE, which must be the FIRST and FOREMOST criteria. He is a former Lt. Governor, Governor, and is now a United States Senator. He is READY.

* He speaks Spanish and has a very good relationship with that community.

* He is from a swing state and would help us shore up winning in VA.

* He relates well to working class white men, and we need as many of them as we can get.

* Warren and Castro are good people but not ready to be President. Warren doesn't bring much to the ticket. She is better being an up-and-coming leader in the Senate and an attack dog surrogate against Trump. Castro as well is better staying where he is and being a surrogate.

The negative for Julian is not being a Senator or Governor.

Maybe other factors will outweigh that.

8. Warren not a good choice

I love her to bits, but she is far more powerful and more influential in the Senate. We can't afford to lose her voice there, especially since Massachusetts elected themselves Charlie Baker, Republican, as governor. We need EVERY Democratic Senator we can get with this new magical 60-vote threshold for any action put in place by Mitch (Don't I remind you of Yertle the Turtle?) McConnell. The same holds true for Sherrod Brown, another frequently mentioned progressive. He is vital to Ohio.

Castro would make an excellent choice.

He's going places in the party. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he is the VP pick.

And I would be surprised if we know her choice until after he GOP convention...

I like Becerra more than Castro though....I don't think Castro has enough experience yet.
She has so many great options! And I'll be happy with whoever she selects.

14. I personally don't think that Julian is seasoned enough yet

- either for what will be required in a VP debate, and, more generally in what seems sure to be a very nasty general election campaign, or in terms of his qualifications to step in as president.

I think he's got promise, but what I've seen of him so far hasn't bowled me over.
Beyond his demographic and geographic assets (young, Hispanic, Texas), I've been underwhelmed by the interviews I've seen with him.

In 8 years, maybe-- but he doesn't feel ready to me yet. I don't know him well, so maybe I'm missing something, but, for whatever it's worth, that's my impression.

Not sure who I would want instead. I do like Kaine, who has extensive executive and legislative experience, including experience in foreign affairs. Plus he's reputed to speak better Spanish than Castro. But there are other possibilities out there, too.

The most important thing is that Hillary pick someone (a) fully qualified to step in as president and (b) someone with whom she is genuinely compatible - someone who will really be part of a team, in the way that Obama and Biden have formed such a constructive team. And , yes, help with the campaign is the third important consideration. But, in the end, (a) and (b) are most important.

16. Might be--it's clear that Trump might put some states into play

a recent Arizona poll has Hillary up by five. She may even try and make Texas competitive or at least force Trump to spend money and time there.
