Bernie's Birthers

I tried to respond to a lengthy anti-Clinton screed but could not because it was posted in the Bernie group, from which I was banned a while back for typically trivial reasons. Please humor me for posting my reaction here instead. The poster was honest enough to identify the author, John LeBoutillier, as a former GOP [ one term ] Congressman, but did not mention that he was the co-author of The Obama Identity: A Novel (Or Is It?), which " is a 2010 novel written by Edward Klein and former Republican United States Representative John LeBoutillier. Among other things, the book explores and promotes the Barack Obama citizenship conspiracy theories and Barack Obama religion conspiracy theories in the form of a novel. In an interview on Fox & Friends, Leboutillier claimed that the book uses "real things" and has "so much real stuff".[1] Following the interview, Media Matters for America published excerpts from the book in an article which criticized the book as having an "incomprehensible plot".[1]

Despite railing (in the hit piece in the Bernie group) against "The Establishment" and posing as a champion of "the outsider," there is no mention that LeBoutillier's mother, "Pamela LeBoutillier (née Tower), is the daughter of Roderick Tower and Flora Payne Whitney, a member of the New York Whitneys who are, in turn, descendants of the Vanderbilt family. Mrs. LeBoutillier is a distant cousin of the late Senator John Tower of Texas.[9] LeBoutillier's great great grandfather was William Collins Whitney, Secretary of the Navy under President Grover Cleveland.[3] Another great great grandfather was Charlemagne Tower. LeBoutillier is a great grandson of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, founder of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and he is also a descendant of railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt.

He is a resident of Old Westbury, New York."

Old Westbury? "In 2007, Business Week dubbed Old Westbury as New York's most expensive suburb.[1]"

This is the same guy who was fined for violating the campaign finance rule which at the time limited contribuitons from individuals to $1,000.00. LeBoutillier was found guilty of accepting $200,500 from his 1%-er Mommy, and both of them had to pay fines. Republican LeBoutillier used that money to finance his campaign to successfully oust (with a little help from redistricting) Democratic Congressman Lester Wolfe.

The post over at Camp Wishful Thinking, which has already garnered dozens of recs, also doesn't mention that LeBoutillier first came to the attention of the GOP hierarchy while fundraising for "Leo K. Thorsness, a South Dakota Republican campaigning to unseat liberal senator George McGovern."

It's not as if this is an Establishment scion who has suddenly seen the light. He has been ragging on the Clintons for more than a decade, and was making the rounds of the talk shows promoting his proposed "anti-Clinton museum" in Arkansas in 2004. He's a publicity seeking right wing opportunist, and it's interesting to see who is in bed with him around here, especially by in a group where this garbage can be posted without fear of contradiction.

Against Hillary, it is another example of RW promoted attacks against Hillary. It is a part of the RW game. Do I think for a moment this same person would back Sanders in the GE, no, it is their plan to keep Hillary out of the GE and have a weaker candidate so the GOP can win.

Thanks for posting.

who call themselves "democrats" don't care who they get in bed with as long as Hillary is being bashed.

"Camp Wishful Thinking" is a winner!!
