(295,899 posts)When a reporter asked Lewis to comment on Sanders' involvement in the movementSanders as a college student at the University of Chicago was active in civil rights workthe congressman brusquely interrupted him. "Well, to be very frank, I'm going to cut you off, but I never saw him, I never met him," Lewis said. "I'm a chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee for three years, from 1963 to 1966. I was involved in the sit-ins, the freedom rides, the March on Washington, the march from Selma to Montgomery, and directed their voter education project for six years. But I met Hillary Clinton. I met President Clinton."

(295,899 posts)Keith Ellison, though.. why he's "accusatory"?

(15,438 posts)I don't understand why he's come out swinging against civil rights icon, John Lewis, instead of doing the sensible thing and keeping quiet like Jim Clayburn, but I guess he feels he needs to "defend" his candidate. To be honest, I don't take Ellison seriously, and never really had, Cha.

(1,053 posts)It's beyond ridiculous.
Lewis is the real deal.
The attitude is repulsive, and if Lewis were of a different
opinion and Hillary folks were trashing him, I'd find it
just as repulsive.
Lewis paid his dues, paid a lot of other peoples' dues,
then he went down to the local bar, paid everyone's
tabs and bought a round for everyone in the room.
...
He doesn't deserve even a fraction of criticism.
