I saw the BLM protester from the HRC event interviewed on MSNBC.

I am not going to question her motivations. However, when she was asked if she was holding Bernie Sanders to the same standard as Hillary Clinton she had a very generic, scripted sounding answer. She was asked twice and had the exact same answer each time. Very unspecific, non-critical answer regarding Sanders.

1. Bill Maher was right about her. I wish she was smart enough to understand who the real enemy is. NT

3. That's because she didn't have an answer. Her targeting is ridiculous.

With the stunt she pulled the other night, all she is doing is hurting the cause she pretends to deeply care for.

5. Apology vs justice.

There is a gigantic difference there, too bad this has become a political fight. It shouldn't be, we need judicial reform and both these candidates will work for it. But, who will help to elect people who will work for it, that is the question. As far as I know, right now, Mr. Sander's doesn't care who gets elected, as long as it's him. As of January, 2016 Clinton has donated over $18 million dollars to candidates running in elections, but Mr. Sanders donation contribution is $0. That should tell you all you need to know.

27. Apparently you are unfamiliar with Tim Canova

who is challenging Debbie Wasserman-Schltz in Florida's 23rd Congressional District. https://timcanova.com/news.htm
He is also running a grass roots campaign funded by small donations rather than superpacs. Sanders has always said from the beginning that the down ticket races a re crucial given the enormous number of House and Senate seats, Governorships and state legislative seats lost since 2012. He fully understands and expounds on the 'revolution' changing the tides down ballot. Hillary is swimming in money, Bernie is not. Money, honey. The root of all evil.

28. Bernie isn't raising money for down ticket races and he agreed to do so.

If he really believed in his own revolution, don't you think he would be doing everything he could to help more Dems get elected?

31. So--how is that helping in General Elections?

Helping one Dem over another in a primary is not the same as helping Dems win down-ballot races in the General Election.

And Sanders' beef with DWS is personal more than ideological.

6. Meh,I'm OK with BLM protests. I don't think BLM thinks

there's any point in protesting Trump or other GOP candidates as being anti BLM is considered a plus with the GOP voters.

7. Since Clinton

Since Clinton is likely to be the next POTUS I think it's right for BLM to focus on her. I think Sanders is an also ran at this point, which is why BLM has focused more on Clinton. Who Ms. Williams may or may not support doesn't discredit her protest. I just wish she'd focus on something more legitimate than that one comment from 20 years ago on a bill that was widely supported. She needs to look into history a bit more, IMO.

I still support her right to protest, though. Good for her for being an activist.

8. Agreed...

They are young people, and they have been watching some horrible things happening, just like we have. When people are shot down just like that, for nothing, can you imagine How traumatizing that must be for these young folks, especially those who fit that description? Most who were raised to believe that this country has made great strides in the race relations.

And then in response to their frustration, there met with batons, tear gas, and armored vehicles! I know it activated my daughter into activism for sure!

So I understand her point, I just don't understand where it goes from here… She didn't seem to have that part figured out. She should've been negotiating for a meeting to discuss the issue further, but they were only interested in getting film footage, because the whole point was to try to get more black voters supporting Sanders, and nothing more.

When Cornell West is involved you can guarantee that whatever is going to be accomplished is going to be petty.

16. History

Last edited Sat Feb 27, 2016, 12:38 PM - Edit history (1)

I recently started following @PropaneJane on Twitter, and her feed has been filled with stories of people who lived through those times. I was in graduate school at the time, and living in New York City, (in the Bronx) so I saw some of it, but as a white person I didn't live it in the same way at all. My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones and who saw their neighborhoods destroyed by crime, and who are still losing loved ones now.

Both Secretary Clinton and Ms. Williams have a tremendous opportunity. I hope they are both brave enough to have the conversation with each other and with us.

9. This same bill got a yes vote from Sanders. I would have thought when she got the attention

of Hillary who wanted to discuss this with her it was a step in the right direction, maybe I missed the point. Hopefully she will decide to pursue a solution and communications will continue.

12. Yep. The protest was good. What wasn't good was shouting down Hillary Clinton even when she offered

to speak to her about it. Ashley wasn't interested in negotiation. She was interested in disruption.

But I do hope that crime bill is gutted and then torn out of the law books!

21. Also, something I had totally forgotten, Sanders' national press secretary is a Naderite and a

BLM activist before she joined his campaign. I totally forgot about that!

Symone Sanders, a volunteer organizer with the D.C.-based Coalition for Juvenile Justice, was announced as the new national press secretary of Sanders’ campaign and was tasked with introducing the 73-year-old senator.

Symone Sanders is a young, black criminal justice advocate and supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. She’s also a progressive political activist right out of the Sanders mold: Her last job was at Ralph Nader’s Public Citizen.

Symone Sanders was also a Naderite. I'm pretty sure she had something to do with paying the $500 to send Ashely Williams out to Hillary Clinton's small fundraiser.

God knows I have protested plenty over the years, including marching in DC against Bush's war.

It leaves a bad taste in my mouth that this was political partisanship.

It was horrible. I was dressed appropriately, too. Two pairs of wool socks inside thermal boots, and I swear my toes were killing me when we walked back to the Metro. I swear it took hours to thaw out.

Bernie needed a black front group to stave off the rumors only pissed-off 25-year-old white people like him, so he went out and found a group of pissed-off 25-year-old black people to like him.
