(879 posts)They are purposely asking questions to try get a gotcha moment.
They are a step away from asking, "When did you stop beating your wife?"
LannyDeVaney
(1,033 posts)they said "If we don't put them on the defensive, we haven't done our job."
Unfortunate, but it's probably an effect from the Republican debate ratings. They want entertainment, not policy.

Very good, tough use of Sanders' 07 clip -- where he clearly asserts his concern that immigration will drive down wages: he doesn't answer q

(34,428 posts)Almost as soon as she speaks he starts waving his hands and making faces. A few times he tries to speak. These moderators have show a willingness to limit time, so i don't like his doing this.

All we're getting is:
1) Gotcha question.
2) Half of an answer interrupted by the moderator 3-4 times.
3) Response interrupted by the moderator 3-4 times.
4) Gotcha question.

(24,149 posts)I haven't been on this forum, or even DU, in a long time. But the double-standards have become beyond aggravating. I actually Googled "feminists for Hillary" before coming here. Where are they?
It's all backlash. It's all uncool. It's all fuddy-duddy now.
I don't mind what Sanders SAYS. I just know reality, and if President Obama didn't get this fantastical "political revolution in Washington," it isn't going to happen for Sanders.
It's easy to think this is all about "purity," not politics. I've seen Mondale, Dukakis, Gore and Kerry... and NADER. Here we finally have a brilliant, accomplished, liberal candidate who knows the game of politics -- and who also knows what it is to be a woman in this country -- but supporting her is sacrilege.
I am also all too aware that the cameras cut to him holding up his hand objecting and interrupting while she's speaking, yet if she speaks up while he's talking he snaps at her for interrupting. He can yell and point as vigorously as he wants, and nobody will call him "shrill" or out of control, yet she can't tread beyond the fine line between "confident" and "crazy." He can look however he looks, but she's criticized for her weight, wardrobe, age and anything else.
(Never mind policy, especially the IWR vote which was so long ago now, I doubt most people listening remember what she SAID in her floor speech when she made her vote!! She is smart not to get down into that old mud because the more time passes, the easier it is to oversimplify as "For" or "Against" what BUSH DID, and "time to explain" is impossible. It has to fit on a bumper sticker.)
Again, my argument is not what Sanders SAYS, or the ideals of anyone who a) won't make it to the White House or b) can make it there and never get a THING done (because there's not going to be a mass revolution storming the Bastille). My argument is with the popular view that he is perfect, and she is Evil Incarnate.
It is just frustrating to me to see, once again, "I'm a woman, but I support the man! How cool of me! And isn't she just awful?"
I would love to think anyone under 50 gets this.
Thanks for letting me VENT!!!
Whew!
