I think that's one of the assets Ricketts got when he bought the Cubs
His brother is the death loving Governor of Nebraska
Rickettts was warned by the MLB just after he bought the Cubs that his caustic comments about the President were not acceptable and that the league would take action if he didn't stop. He owned the team in Chicago, Pres Obama's home city, and he needed to show some measure of restraint

Ricketts did comply.
My guess is because I think MLB also has a clause which allows the league to strip you of your team if more than a certain percentage vote for it. And they still enjoy anti-trust exemption
