The Democratic National Convention 2016

The convention will be held July 25-28 in the historic city of Philadelphia, which will no doubt provide an incredible atmosphere for our historic election! http://www.phldnc.com

If by the New York primary, we were to lock up the nomination, it gives us about a 90 day spread between the delegate threshold and the beginning of the convention. By contrast, then Senator Obama soundly beat then Senator Hillary Clinton in the North Carolina primary on May 6th. The North Carolina primary was largely seen as Hillary's last stand, in terms of momentum, it was. The 2008 Democratic National Convention was held on August 25-28 in Denver, Colorado. There was a spread of about 110 days between the two dates.

*However, Hillary and Barack were much, much closer in delegates in 2008. So in theory, I think everyone will agree that last night was the May 6th of 2008, if you will. This puts us in an interesting predicament, Hillary will absolutely be the nominee, the math provides no scenario based in reality for Senator Sanders to win the nomination.

Turning our attention to the general and getting to work on electing as many democrats as possible this November, is imperative. I'm not necessarily in favor of calling for Sander's to get out, that being said if he's going to stay in, he needs to revamp his message to benefit the down ballot. If we run this until June, we will have approximate 40 days between the last primary and the start of the Convention, 70 days less than President Obama had.

We take the Senate.
We advise and consent on the appointments of the Judiciary.
We challenge the constitutionality of gerrymandered congressional districts.
We the People elect our members of Congress as the Constitution intended to.

I love that it's the where the Liberty Bell is.. it's going to be so exciting!

Yes Hillary was within 50 delegates of Obama back then.. so she most definitely knows how this works.

I was for him then and her now and I love them both!Mahalo

in PA while you were on vacation. It must have been unnerving to be away from your OB and planned birthing facility!

Great night for Hillary, Cha. I was tired last night and wanted to go to sleep early but I kept getting back up to check the returns as the states were being called...hoping for a sweep. I so want to get away from the vitriol within and turn our full attention to putting our lady in the WH!

I left home today before anything had been called except Florida and made sure I stayed away until it was all over. I kept thinking about it all afternoon just hoping she wins them all.. and then when I came back it had happened.

Otherwise I get too hyperventilating. Ever since I jumped up an down when they called Florida for Gore I don't reply on anything until it's all over.

I too just want to get Hillary to the GE so we can go straight to the White House.

And, have President Obama campaign with her like they did in 2008 when their roles were reversed.

He was born in Philadelphia! It's such a great city, I can't wait to go back. I was there in 2008 after the North Carolina primary. Saw the sites, ate at Geno's Steaks, just an incredible trip.

My hope is that the DNC runs the first three nights at the Wells Fargo Center and then on the 4th and final night, transition to Lincoln Financial Field which is right next door. Very similar to what we did in 2008. Wells Fargo Center holds about twenty thousand, while Lincoln Financial Field holds seventy thousand. We'd pack that stadium so fast on the last night, fingers crossed!

Toomey is vunerable here in PA and hopefully we Philadelphians will turn out en masse to get him the hell out - notably with his current active campaign to have the Senate violate the Constitution by REFUSING to have hearings for the SCOTUS vacancy while Obama is in office.

I briefly looked into the PA slate of democrats running, we have a some superb candidates. Toomey has avoided the microphone for years, hoping to fly under the radar. It did not work, Pennsylvania is going to kick his pathetic ass out.

still crawling around who put him in when the rest of the state fell asleep in 2010. This election cycle will hopefully get people fired up - BUT whichever Dem candidate gets the nod after the primary, they must must must invest ad time and face time in Philly - something that Sestak didn't do the last go-around. Philly alone can produce in excess of 400,000 Dem votes (out of a city population of > 1.5 million), and that has helped consistently throw the state over into the D column for every Presidential election since 1988 (including all those years since when the media kept insisting that PA was a "swing" state). Folks saw us wake up to get Wolf in last year as our current Democratic governor and Corbett out (breaking a previous 40+ year precedent of alternating party governors getting 2 terms)!
