(15,445 posts)Did you notice that there's a lost sheep in this thread, claiming that Hillary is a Republican?
I tried to explain that he'd taken a wrong turning, but perhaps a host needs to intervene?

(15,445 posts)You venture here to affirm that Hillary is a Republican?
Consider yourself on dangerous ground at your own risk and peril.

He's not even close to presidential material.

(10,437 posts)it hampers getting really ANYTHING done and why there is NO significant piece of legislation that Bernie was sole author of in all the years he has been in congress....he has been "co-sponsored: of others and has had some amendments passed...but the "my way or the highway" attitude is as pervasive in sanders (and his supporters) just as much as it is in most conservatives....
this attitude may work in dictatorships but pretty much fails in democracies where compromise and negotiations to get stuff done is THE key.....
not saying that bernie's ideas as bad....but if you aren't willing to compromise some....NOTHING would be accomplished. Even with Obama's willingness to compromise, conservatives pretty much obstructed everything they could (and still do)....bernie would accomplish NOTHING when faced with same opposition...at least obama got some stuff done....and why I see Hillary as the BEST person to be able to continue on the path that will benefit America

(15,445 posts)Excellent points, especially this:

(10,437 posts)and their unwillingness not to see the issues in anything but black or white....no matter if Bush/cheney would get elected or not....to me it was a very shameful move on people who professed to be liberal, progressive and/or democratic.....because THEY knew that not supporting Gore.....bush/cheney had a real chance of winning. Very shameful move on their part and to me THOSE nader supporters bear the most responsibility for the 8 years of bush/cheney more so than the actual people who voted for bush/cheney.....
tunnel vision and unwillingness to compromise is NOT a trait to be proud of....not if you are a democrat, independent, progressive or liberal.....
my way or the highway serves conservatives...but we should NEVER have it be part of who WE are.....

(15,445 posts)whether on the left or right side of the political spectrum.
If a Chinese apartatchic still holds rigidly to Maoist Red Book dogma, he must be considered a conservative. Conservatism under any other label is STILL conservatism.
Many Manicheans among the Bernie brigade, I fear.

(4,640 posts)legislation. Compromise does. Do our Reps and Senators have to make compromises they don't like? You bet. Damn near daily, I'd bet. When the compromise gets us things like the ACA, the Amber Alert system, and other good things, it's certainly not a bad thing.

In my opinion, he'd be a diplomatic disaster waiting to happen.

(27,801 posts)I think this does a nice job of summing up the discomfort we have with Sanders, despite usually lining up with him idealogically. He reminds me of a teacher who punishes the whole class because one person threw a spitball. It also goes a long way towards explaining the tepid support from his colleagues.

(404 posts)Two days before the Senate voted to break a Republican filibuster of the bill, Reid called on Sanders to make his case on the Senate floor. Sanders, in typical fashion, said the legislation was far from perfect, but thundered about the common-sense need for health centers, citing the acute demand for more primary care doctors, the cost-savings from patients who would otherwise use the emergency room for the common cold, the patient-centered model of clinics, and so on. Senate Democrats rallied and overcame the Republican filibuster.

(42,862 posts)... and the polar opposite Tea Party on the other, nothing would get done. Everyone would just sit back and be "proud of themselves" for standing-their-ground and not compromising "on principle".
Woo fucking hoo.
