Peter Daou was a forced child soldier in Lebanon.

The levels that some have stooped to in order to attack him because he's a Clinton supporter are stunningly hateful. Here's his answer to those creeps:

MAR 22 2016

Over the course of the past year, I have been subjected to some of the most aggressive trolling and personal attacks of my 15 year political career. Virtually all of it stems from my advocacy for Hillary Clinton.

In recent months, those vicious attacks on my character have taken a very dark turn.

And I intend to deal with it through legal means.

First, some background: My mother is American, my father was Lebanese. I grew up in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war and as the son of a Christian father, I was required to undergo military training by the Lebanese Forces. The mandatory training began when I was in high school and lasted for three years. It took place after school hours and during the summer. My schoolmates were also conscripted.

Even though I am a U.S. citizen by birth, I was forbidden from leaving Lebanon without written permission from the military. My father ultimately secured a waiver and I moved to my mother’s home city of New York. I’ve only been back to Beirut a handful of times since. The last visit was in the early nineties. I still find the memories traumatic.

As a child, I survived some of the most brutal urban warfare of the 20th century. I witnessed terrible things, bodies torn to shreds, car-bombed buildings, jets falling out of the sky. I lost friends and relatives. I spent countless nights in dank, candle-lit bunkers with missiles raining down from the sky.

I was a few hundred yards away from the American embassy when a car bomb demolished it and I saw blood dripping down its shattered facade. I had many close brushes with death, as did my family.

Apparently for no other reason than that she announced her endorsement of Hillary.

that if one supports Hillary in any way-shape-or-form, one is a vile and despicable person, an oligarch or someone who lacks the intellectual wherewithal to "get" how great and frigging fantastic Bernie is. That leads to the ad hominem attacks on Hillary supporters.

The only revolutionary thing about the "revolution" is its inability to handle any different point of view from anyone. It reminds me of GW Bush "either your wit us or your wit terrists" (misspelling intentional -- don't respond with it should be "you're&quot

My political career was forged in the flame wars that followed the (s)election of George W. Bush. In 2001, I discovered a community of like-minded progressives at Democratic Underground and I never looked back. In the 15 years since I joined DU and began battling “Freepers,” I’ve lived in the bubbling, churning cauldron of online politics, from the rise of blogs to the advent of social media. Like anyone else who engages in vigorous online debate, I’ve been attacked and smeared and insulted and I’ve developed skin thick enough to brush it off and keep fighting.

As an anti-war protester (who grew up in a war zone), I battled the “101st Fighting Keyboard Brigade” and was labeled a traitor and an America hater. As an adviser to John Kerry, I fought the reprehensible swiftboaters in the online trenches and endured threats to my family from gun-toting, warmongering loudmouths.

In all my years of online advocacy, nothing has matched the unhinged attacks generated by my unabashed support for Hillary Clinton, someone I admire tremendously and for whom I’ve worked as an adviser. For the first time in my political career, I have a sense of what it must be like to be a feminist on the front lines of politics, where each day brings a new wave of venom from predominantly young men. That so many of these verbal assaults come from the left is deeply troubling.

Blue Nation Review is right under DU(Hillary Group) in my "most frequently visited" sites. So sad that such vile things have been said, and for what? Just because he supports Hillary. I read what some of you say about supporting Bernie if is the nominee, but unless he starts disowning some of those vitriolic yahoos, I will vote for all down-ticket Dems but it will be hard to vote for BS.

But I am glad this campaign will never come to writing in her name. She will be our Dem nominee.

Bernie can go wherever he wants. Won't be missing him at all, nor his band of online --------s.

I've read a few of his things about the election. He's a good writer. What he has been subjected to is disgusting.

Peter,

If you still read DU, I am deeply saddened by the way you've been treated.
It's bad enough to see such despicable behavior on the right, but when I see it on the left too, it breaks my heart.
Thank you for speaking out, and standing up against those who distort the truth.
Hopefully this will be over soon.
