Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumIf Bernie Supporters couldn't understand the rules of the Arizona primary, just wait until....
they find out that (unless they are a registered Democrat) they are "shit out of luck" for New York State!
They would have had to change their affiliation six months ago in October.
here is the rule:
To Change Your Party Affiliation
You can change your party affiliation by obtaining a Voter Registration Form, indicating the change and sending it to the Board of Elections. We will process the information and send you a new voter card reflecting the change in party. You cannot CHANGE your enrollment and vote in the NEW PARTY of your choice in the same year. Please Note: a change of enrollment will go into affect one week following the General Election. The last day to change your enrollment is the same as the last day to register for the General Election (25 days prior to the date of the General Election).
The change won't go into effect until the middle of November....too late already!

(9,494 posts)he rag-tag coalition of independents, republicans and naderites would not be able to vote for him at all. He would have had to have sent people in to NY October 1st in order to get registered voters to change.
That's the fault of the top tier in the campaign and that's Jeff Weaver. That is just amateurish!

(6,855 posts)Never involved in party organization, party dynamics, electoral rules. As a member of Congress, he could vote on a bill as an unaffiliated rep.
But his aim is not to lead, to govern. His aim is to fuel mistrust in the system and tear it down. To alienate a key demographic from the process. His aim is to DRIVE DOWN turnout, not raise it.

(11,617 posts)These "arguments" are indistinguishable from: "$5.00 is nothing, if a voter doesn't have it, he shouldn't be allowed to vote." Or anything thrown up to disenfranchise people. I would hope that my party, the democratic party (lower case was intentional, despite goddam autocorrect), wants to make it easier, not more difficult, to express an opinion.

Screw em. They've disenfranchised themselves.

(9,494 posts)sabotaging primaries. NYS had problems with this and fixed them with this rule. If you are going to run for president you should hire someone to at least understand the rules.
If you can't hire someone who can keep your finances or primary rules straight, perhaps you aren't capable of running a country.

(3,825 posts)Our primary was an open primary. This was a close race here, you know that. But if you look deeper, all the counties that went to Mr. Bernie Sanders were in the deep red tea party abyss. All you had to do was show up at your polling place and ask for a ballot either Repuke or Democrat. Guess who got so many of those deep red tea party counties that Trump won by double digits? You know who don't you? So that kind of primary is just alright with you, as long as the other party sabotages your candidate. Live long enough, you learn politics isn't for the faint of heart or the clueless.

(1,968 posts)Sorry, kids. In Pennsylvania, the Legislature (and I) say(s) that if you can't be arsed to register for the party a month before the election, you don't get to decide who the party's representative is in the election.
I've been registered Democrat(ic) for years. I get to vote in their primaries. I do not get to choose to carpetbag over to the Republicans and decide their elections unless I change my registration.
Independents have stated that they're NOT a member of either party. So guess what? They do NOT get to choose the candidates in either party. That's the price, and it's laid out quite clearly in the rules.

(44,173 posts)Voting, however, requires one to register with the party.
That too is free of charge, but it requires a little initiative taking, and not excuse-making.

(740 posts)...to win an election or you run into problems like this.
I am rather gladdened that to win a primary you need to prove not only your 'popularity' but also your hiring, planning, networking and organizational skills. Because without those skills you're really not going to know how to run a nation.
