no surprise but still upsetting. if you're a democrat you vote for the nominee.

(4,035 posts)They don't see the disconnect between supporting a libertarian and supporting a socialist. However, I guess the thing they have in common is that they are good for white people in liberal Oregon - the rest of the country not so much.

(1,968 posts)Many will come around as election day approaches and Donald Trump becomes a frightening reality.
Some aren't Democrats, don't vote Democrat, have never voted Democrat, and we never had them in the first place. No loss, they'll claim they voted for Obama to try and sound relevant, but they didn't.
Some--a very few--really mean it and will stay home. But that would be true no matter who's the nominee and the magnitude is no greater than the reverse if Sanders were nominated.
At its heart, it's a scare tactic to try to get people to support Sanders and nothing more. Like most scare tactics, it deserves only the most base of answers that I can't repeat here. But I'm sure thinking it.

(6,280 posts)... WTF-ish. It just seems weird to see those who will not vote for Hillary Clinton if she is the nominee get on this board and tell everyone how scary the DerTrumpenfeuhrer is, and how he's going to destroy our country out of one side of their mouth, then say they will not vote for the Democratic nominee if it's Hillary out of the other side. How the hell do they reconcile that bullshit? I will say it and I don't think it's out of line. Anyone who believes Hillary is as bad as Trump, is either being willfully ignorant, with a heaping helping of selfish ego, or dumber than a box of rocks.

(6,280 posts)... when Hillary wins the nomination? Are they going to suddenly stop attacking Trump? Really, if they are going to not vote for a democrat in the general election, we shouldn't have to sit here and listen to them cry, piss, and moan about something they could have had a part in stopping. If, er, when Hillary becomes the Democratic nominee, one can only hope they will do the honorable thing and leave DU, which as I understand it, is a place for Democrats to support other Democrats, and not a place to bemoan an independent's failed campaign who switched to democrat for convenience sake. This is a specific group I'm talking about and it does not include all of Bernie's supporters.

Most of those who will vote for the totally unqualified Green Party candidate, Jill Stein, haven't voted for Democratic nominees in a long time.
While polls showing that Hillary will beat Trump are too early to be truly meaningful, they are also not flukes. Almost a quarter of normally Republican voters claim they will not vote for Trump. While some white male workers who call themselves independents will probably vote for Trump, the cross over vote for Hillary will more than make up for those loses and the "Bernie or Bust" crowd.

(711 posts)I mean, people actually voted for Nader. Today, those same voters, never stop to think how they helped to defeat Gore (even though Gore won.) There's a blind naivete in that type of thinking that boggles the mind. I can accept that in 18 year old kids, but not in middle aged folks.

(10,974 posts)I bought the line from Michael Moore, I didn't think Clinton had the balls to stand up for what was right and was too willing to compromise. I thought there wouldn't be much difference between Bush and Gore.
I learned how wrong I was on 9/11. And while it is easy to blame Katherine Harris, or Justice Rehnquist, it was absolutely Nader and the people who fell for the line that there was no difference between the Republicans and Democrats who cost Gore the Presidency.
But I also remember the hope I felt when Clinton was elected, it was the end of the Reagan/Bush years and I was full of idealism - and absolutism, and that was something that fueled my anger in 2000.
