(2,707 posts)not a caucus (ie a place for bullying).
Also, because its neither a state that gave Nader high vote totals in 2000, or that have so few Dems left that they're all far-left (like Utah, Idaho, etc.)

(295,929 posts)Dem today and vote for BS.
Which I felt like so many were at my polling place. It felt like the Twilight Zone to me.

Unlike Arizona's PP where you couldn't register Dem the same day you can in Hawaii.. so I pretty much know how that's going to turn out.

(295,929 posts)it has been confusing.
I first thought we were going to be "caucuses" like the horror stories I've heard but I started researching the heck out of it when someone asked me on here if were going to caucus for Hillary?
I was happy to report that No.. Not a caucus.

(6,444 posts)Alaska (16): Delegates will be rewarded by state House districts and determined by a caucus system. Candidates must receive at least 15% of votes in a district to be granted any delegates. The caucuses begin at 10 a.m. local time.
Washington (101): Washington uses a mixed system to appoint delegates from the caucus results by congressional district. Registered voters who attend must publicly attest to being Democrats if they want to participate in the caucuses, which begin at 10 a.m. local time.
Hawaii (25): Hawaii Democrats also hold caucuses, but unlike Alaska and Washington, it is considered a presidential preference poll and conducted by secret ballot. Delegates are doled out proportionately. Voting begins at 1 p.m. local time.

(295,929 posts)It's actually called a "Preference Poll" in Hawaii.. not a "caucus".. But, anyone can register as a
Dem today and vote for BS.

(1,968 posts)I've been to Hawaii twice and had a marvelous time on both visits. The weather is unbeatable. The surf and beaches, fantastic. Food, outstanding. People, friendly. Air, crystal clear.
Four weeks total there wasn't nearly enough.
My only regret was that we visited Volcano National Park both times, and both times some sections were off limits due to a volcano having the bad manners to erupt (gently) while we were there.
Hawaii was also the first time I experienced a minor earthquake...nothing serious, just enough to notice.
Cha
(295,929 posts)I'm on Kauai, the Garden Island, way North.
Our bike trail further North than where I am..
The bike trail close to my hale where I run on the grassy beach part..
Aloha Treant~

(1,968 posts)This was back in the 1970's and 1980's. We hit Kauai both times, and found it much more restful and far less frenetic than the Big Island--if a little less available in the way of things to do.
Not that we minded, your beaches are, if anything, far more lovely than the Big Island's!
Both times, I went with my parents (I was about 9 the first time, 16 the second), who had lived in Honolulu while my father was in the Navy. So they definitely knew what to see and what to do--and knew people who lived there who could show us the modern stuff to see and do.
I remember that entire trip quite fondly. We even capped it with a visit to San Francisco, CA, to break up the return trip a bit. There's another city I found I rather liked.
Cha
(295,929 posts)I love San Francisco.. was there when I was 15 and 40!
Treant
(1,968 posts)but picture a young gay fellow of sixteen in San Francisco in 1986 whose parents were really rather lax about what time he came and went with new young friends because "he's so responsible."
Well, that was true. Usually.

(22,871 posts)We lived on Maui when I was a kid. My dad worked on the top of Haleakala. We moved around from Kihei to Paia and finally to Waihee. Walked to this school right down the street every day:
If you kept walking past the school you would see taro fields for miles. We'd walk down the road and pick Job's Tears to make leis. My dad and uncle both worked at what is now called The Science Center on Haleakala, myself,my brother and my cousins are all going back next year to visit our old haunts.
Thanks for the pics,Cha. Lucky you.

(1,968 posts)had a plumeria tree in their front yard.

Cha
(295,929 posts)I didn't know all this!
I've never been to Maui, either. I know Job's Tears for leis though.. my friend made them on Kaua'i I have an ankle bracelet he made me with them and bits of amethyst.. so pretty.
So many challenges here but some days I do feel lucky..
Mahalo, Su, for your pic~

(22,871 posts)return when we go,my cousin, who also grew up there, went back to visit about 5 years ago and we she came back, she told us "our Maui is gone". Oh well, time marches on.

(1,968 posts)The part of Pennsylvania I grew up in is also long gone.
You know what? It's still very similar and still nice. I'm glad I went, and although the changes made me a little sad, that's just what time does. And it's not worse, it's just different.
Try to picture the memories the kids there are forming now...and how they'll mourn for the Kauai that no longer exists in thirty years while enjoying the new one.

Hillary is still FAR in the lead! For a comparison to 2008 where the race was MUCH closer, which is why Hillary stayed in as long as she did then, see http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/democratic_delegate_count.html AND https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_presidential_primaries,_2008
Bernie WILL win a couple more states, but Hillary will continue to pick up delegates even there, just as she did last night - even though she missed target goals. And in the states with the biggest delegate counts remaining with closed primary elections where independents and GOPers cannot skew the results so blatantly, Hillary will pick up the larger share of delegates. You know this, of course. I am merely repeating it to encourage myself as well.
Let us hope that Bernie will show even half as much class when he concedes and that he will also do so before the convention, as Hillary did in 2008. Based on what he's saying and doing now, I have my doubts. But I can still hope that his better nature will prevail.

(34,303 posts)I don't think either will be lopsided, but unless something drastically changes, I think she will win both. If so, the Fauxmentum stops there as it will be virtually impossible for him to overcome her lead at that point.
