Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumDid You Notice Bernie's Major Insult To All Current Ds on TYT?
Did you happen to catch Bernie's interview on TYT wherein he said that he wanted to rebuild the Party (as if it needs rebuilding) and that he hoped the D Party would be a party that welcomed the little guy etc rather than being a party of the elites (as if the D Party in its present form and operation ignores the little guy, ie: lower and middle class, minorities, women, gays etc).
He basically said that all of us who are current members of the D Party and who are not wealthy or among the political elite (like Bernie Sanders, who as one of only 100 Senators is about as elite as you can get politically in this country) are not welcome in the Party.
Such an asshole.

Can Bernie Sanders Win the Love of a Party He Scorns?
The long, troubled history of Bernie Sanders and the 'ideologically bankrupt' party whose White House nod he now seeks.

(27,802 posts)and which is why he appeals to some millennials. I should hasten to add, not all millennials are like this, I work with one in particular who's as hard a worker as I've ever met, but there is definitely a vocal contingent of millennials who do think that their first order of business in the workplace is to set everyone else straight on how to do things better.

(11,008 posts)They have to grade on the curve to make sure that the students pass. My niece was excited because she had 100% in one class, and then said how she couldn't complete half the test. Apparently that's an artifact of No Child Left Behind...

(27,802 posts)But there is definitely a mindset among some millenials that Bernie Sanders appeals to.
There are many wonderful millennials, and I work hard - not always successfully - to separate the great ones from some of the things I see trending in the group as a whole.

(1,053 posts)I mean, I've never agreed with the stereotype of the "arrogant
youth/greenhorn/newbie/whatever" all the same as I've never
agreed with the flip side...the arrogant, inflexible, stay the course
long-timer. Arrogance is a trait, and like Bernie, I'm sure most who
exhibit it carry it throughout their lives.
Bernie's not arrogant because he's, in effect, making suggestions
(not really) or pointing out problems in the D party (maybe a bit)...
he's arrogant because that's just who he is...and that makes his
non-suggestions and statements as obviously empty and
disingenuous as they really are. His attitude regarding what
he thinks the party should do leaves a bad taste in the mouth,
not because the arrogance (though it sure doesn't help) but
because it's becoming obvious he doesn't actually give a damn
about the party.
In the general, what pisses me off about the "know it all" newbie
isn't that they are new, complaining, or making suggestions...but
when their motivations for doing so are questionable...when really,
they're just nitpicking to score points.
Bernie's motives for all this are pretty questionable...his comments
strike as empty, and we all know he's desperate to score any points
he can.
A newcomer with a new perspective can be very useful...valuable...
when their comments are genuine.
I will admit, there are many in my cohort that do not yet get this,
and I feel like there may be something about the times we've grown
up in that has fostered this "nitpick for points" attitude, especially
in those predisposed to arrogance.
In fact, someone might argue that my own post walks that line,
or close to it...though the comments are meant in good faith.

Not in the sense of being objective and making observations and insightful critiques.
It's assuming an air of superiority by being detached and cynical.
It's tearing others down to build oneself up. Demonization.
Sanders is essentially saying Democrats are self-interested and lack proper motivations.
He then proposes empty pseudo-suggestions whilst using demagoguery to stir angry emotions.
And he will fail because Democrats are by nature coalition builders and pragmatic.

(6,444 posts)Sanders is aligned with Senate Democrats, but he has spoken lately of a problem with the Democratic coalition that elected President Obama. He says working-class white voters have abandoned Democrats in large numbers. The party, he says, has "not made it clear that they are prepared to stand with the working-class people of this country, take on the big money interests."
NPR's Steve Inskeep sat down with Sanders in his office and talked about the senator's plan for the middle class, how he says the Democratic Party lost its way, and American action against the Islamic State.

I'm not out for purity. I want us to improve incrementally but steadily. That's what President Obama has and continues to work extremely hard for, and what Secretary Clinton has promised to carry on and expand upon.
