Venezuela frees then expels US filmmaker

Venezuela frees then expels US filmmaker
CARACAS, Venezuela — US filmmaker Timothy Tracy, jailed in Venezuela after being accused of instigating unrest and espionage, was released from prison and expelled from the country on Wednesday.

Tracy, a 35-year-old filmmaker from Los Angeles, Calif., was arrested in April at the Caracas airport as he was attempting to leave Venezuela.

The authorities accused him of funding opponents of newly elected President Nicolas Maduro, the preferred heir of the late leftist leader Hugo Chavez, but his lawyer said he has now been released because there was not sufficient evidence to hold him.

Arresting Tracy was one of the latest moves by the South American government that's made repeated efforts to prove the United States and others are working to destabilize it, or worse — a theory that's shared by many in Venezuela, as well as the US and abroad, but denied by Washington.

This was posted about in the other conspiracy theory thread but it was buried. It deserves its own topic even though it happened several days ago (I've been out of the loop with news lately). What kind of government expels spies or agents for other governments? Tim Tracey should've been taken to trial. The allegations against him were extremely dire.

But, as predicted, the liars in the Venezuelan government will get a pass. Make up some bullshit Emmanuel Goldstein, and run with it. Works every time.

until someone pointed out they won't die so often if you take them out of jail first, then expel them from the country.

They have many high profile problems. The Lourdes Afiuni case in particular Maas become a royal pain in Maduro's behind. And now there's the Richard Mardo case, it appears they had faked the documents used to charge him.

I mostly look at the economics and oil industry side for my work, but I find information when I read the news and watch the papers, and this Venezuelan regime sure looks funky. This is becoming like a novel full of interesting characters. It's like Hawaii or Exodus.

By the way, a Venezuelan friend I called in Caracas tells me they are expecting the release of a second Mario Silva tape any day. Does anybody know about it?
