Peru Launches First Homemade Rocket

Peru Launches First Homemade Rocket

LIMA, June 13 (Bernama) -- Peru has successfully launched its first rocket built with 100 percent Peruvian technology with the capacity to reach the stratosphere, Xinhua news agency reported.

Mario Pimentel Higueras, head of National Aerospace Research and Development Commission (Conida), said Wednesday the Paulet 1-B rocket was launched at the scientific base of Punta Lobos, Pucusana in south of the country's capital Lima.

Conida's chief said the launch showed Peru could reach a level of technological capability by 2020 that would make it feasible for the country to send satellites into orbit.

"The manufacturing of Paulet 1-B is a milestone in Peru's aerospace industry, it is the first time that a device built solely with Peruvian technology was launched into space," he said.

Good to know that the local countries are becoming able to produce their own rockets and satellites. Congratulations to Peru.
