Venezuela faces bread shortage due to lack of flour

Venezuela is facing a serious food crisis due to a lack of wheat flour throughout the country.

According to Peru21, the Spanish newspaper ABC has reported that the root of the bread shortage is a lack of wheat flour. ABC writes that the Venezuelan government is the country’s largest single importer of flour, but due to a workers’ strike at Venezuelas Molinos Nacionales mill company, no flour has been produced since December. Molinos Nacionales produce 40% of the country’s flour.

Peru21 reports that other wheat importation companies in the country were unable to import the staple because they had not been given permits or production certificates on time.

Authorities are reportedly considering accepting flour from Colombia in order to alleviate the situation
